James Rogers was born in Ittica, Licking County, Ohio, November 21, 1831. He came to Illinois when 18 years old and settled in Parker Township, Clark County. On December 25, 1851, he led to the alter Miss Piety Low of Cumberland township. To them were born twelve children, of whom ten survive him, two having died in infancy.
On September 5, 1885, he was converted and united with the church of God, was baptized by Elder George Sandoe and remained a faithful member until death.
He was taken sick with consumption March 13, 1891, from which he endured over 6 years of suffering until the 4th day of December, 1897, when death relieved him.
The funeral was attended by a large congregation. He was the father of C.F. Rogers of Lodge, Piatt County, Illinois, who was present at his funeral. His remains were interred on December 5, 1897, at the Willis Chapel Cemetery.
