Donal was the son of Ora “Doc” MCWHIRTER and Vallene “Vallie” CEARLOCK. Donal’s mother died shortly after his birth from complications associated with childbirth. He was raised by his maternal grandparents until his grandfather’s death in 1935 and can be found in some records under the surname “CEARLOCK.” Shortly after his grandfather’s death he went to live with his father in Vandalia, Illinois. A photograph of Donald with his maternal grandparents can be found on my home page. Two photographs of Donal’s mother also appear on my home page.
