History of Marion and Clinton Counties, ILL (Brink. McDonough & Co., Philadelphia 1881, pg 73) shows "The first jury trial in Marion County was Barthena Huff versus John Eblen, on a charge of bastardy. Eblen was found guilty, and was sentenced to pay sixty dollars in ten annual payments of $6 each towards supporting the child."
The entry for Barthena on FindaGrave http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=27...
says this child was William Carroll Huff.
I'm descended from Barthena through one of her children with husband James Perry Rogers and have just started poking into this family. She was born in Tennessee in 1806, so a son born in 1823 isn't unreasonable. She married Rogers in 1828.
