We used to play on a big concrete foundation in a field behind Wild Rose Drive. Appropriately enough, it was called "The Concrete". This is in the Country Heights subdivision. I later heard and read on the Register News forum that it was the site of a WWII prison camp. Can anyone tell me where I can find more information and/or photos of this camp? There is also a large, round concrete structure on Central Avenue that neighborhood kids used as a fort. Mrs. Reba Boyer, a former teacher, told me she had hoped to convince Mayor David Keen to paint it with scenes of WWII. The Primary Center could have then used it for outdoor lessons and learning. This fell through, unfortunately.
