I was given some pictures of my grandfather's family that were handed down from a great-aunt a few years ago. Among these is a picture of a beautiful little boy about 2 years old - holding a bottle, dressed in bib overalls. Around the edges is written "Edgar Dempsey, got burned to death in Mt. Vernon, Ill". Information on the back says he was the son of Columbus Dempsey, who was my great grandfather. There is no one living who can provide me with additional information, not even a date or year. I believe he is the William E. Dempsey (Dempse) aged 12/12 in the 1910 census of Jefferson Co. (Mt. Vernon) with Columbus E. Dempsey & wife Mary. The older boy is Mary's son from a prior marriage even though he is listed as Columbus' son in this record.
If anyone has any information that can help me I would really appreciate it. this has been one of those mysteries that haunts me.
