I can add a little information about James Leander STRAIN the son of James W. Strain and Margaret GARRETT. He was born in Highland Co. OH. He served in the Civil War- 1st Sgt. Co. "A" 83th reg.t IL vol. He died 17 May 1914 in Glendale, Los Angeles Co. CA.He married the widow Margaret Haynes Sweetser. Margaret Haynes was b. 25 Aug 1832 in Clinton Co. OH. She d.26 Oct 1925 in San Diego CA. She was the daughter of Asa HAYNES and Mary Jane Elizabeth GADDIS. Margaret married first Emery SWEETSER in Knox Co. IL in 1853. After Emery died (21 Jun 1856 in Knox Co. IL, a month after he turned 24) she married James Leander Strain 15 Mar 1860 in Knox Co. IL. They had 4 children all b Knox Co. IL.(1) Rosilea Strain b. 1862 d. 28 Jan 1950 Ventura Co. CA. She marrried Dr. Martin MERRILL. No children.(2) Estella Strain b. 1866 d. Jan 1886. Never married.(3) James Frank Strain b. 1869 married Dora Belle WAGONER 17 Apr 1898 in Leclede Co. MO. He lived in ID.(4) Mary Strain b. 1873 d. Oct 1927 in San Diego Co. CA. She never married.
