Ray's an umpteenth cousin & we both belong to the Herriott Association (he's the editor of the newsletter.) Recently I went to Mercer Co., IL to the courthouse & found no mention of any Herriott prior to Van R. in 1854 (or 1852?)... Anyhow, nothing to indicate a parent. There's nothing on the 1850 census, either.
At the Viola cemetery, My 2-great grandmother, a son by Nathaniel's second wife & Alice Clemmie Harriott are all buried in the same row with Van R & Mary R. Harriott - an in the plot owned by Mary R.'s father, John Frazier.
I'm not sure where to look now, but I won't stop!
Please keep in touch.
