Classification: Query
Surnames: FINLEY, BEAVER, DOAK, KIRBY, LITTLE, JACKSON, etc.
Looking for John Finley and Mr. Jones who seemed to be
in Morgan Co. IL for a short time before moving on to MADISON CO, around 1800-06. I believe they were both coming from Tennessee. John Finley was born in NC. He had
a son named Thomas Heaven Finley.
I have search history books on countys, looked every
place I can think of to look. I know he was listed along with the Whitesides, Moore, Jacob Short (my ancestor through his wife, daughter of Joseph CARR of Turkey Hill, St.Clair Co) as being in the Rangers in Black Hawk War and
war of 1812.
I have James Finley in PA in 1700's PA, with brother? Samuel and wife. They were born in Dublin, DUBLIN IRELAND.
They had children.

Their son John married Thankful DOAK 1724 in BERKS? CO PA. John was born 1706 in Dublin. They had a few kids and moved to AUGUSTA CO VA . My interest is in their sons John and Thomas. Thomas married a Mary HEAVEN. They either had a
son or grandson named Thomas Heaven FINLEY, who moved to
IL with his father John Finley.
I can follow them to MERKLEBURG NC, and I know Thomas Sr. moved to Tennesse for awhile, but did his brother John come
with him? Was Thomas Heaven FINLEY the son or grandson
of Thomas Finley, son of John Finley & Thankful? And where
in the line does the John Finley, known as "Fighting Jack"
fit? I know he is Thomas Heaven FINLEYs father, but who is HIS father?
There is next to NOTHING on him in county history books,
which makes little sense to me, as he owned land in
ST.CLAIR, 1810, 1820 in MONROE, RANDOLPH, MADISON & GREENE counties, and cotinued to buy. He had at least 3
presidents signatures on deeds. He lived in MADISON CO near
Apple Creek and Piasa? He had 2 sons there in 1822,
Simpson & SAmpson, must have been twins. They moved to
GREENE CO, and lived in a couple of areas. Sampson married
a Cloe and ended up in TX. Simpson married in MADISON CO
and moved to MACOUPIN CO, near the Apple River?
Thomas HEAVEN moved from MADISON to GREENE. He married
Mary Little in 1814, had 1 daughter, Mary died. In 1818
he married Charlotte JACKSON. His father was John.
On Simpson Finley's deaths cert his fathers name is given
as John also. So between John and Thankful we have a couple
of generations. Which JOHN is the father of Simpson and/or
Thomas H. Finley. What are their mothers names.
Why aren't these folks listed as more than a mention...if
that, in all these history books?
Simpson had a son Leonard, who had a son Richard, born
in Springfield, SANGAMON CO. Richard was a musician and
moved to Chicago and married Vivienne Kasper. They had
children, including DuWayne Kirby Finley, Kirby after Nancy
Kirby, one of the Finley wifes back a couple of gens.
DuWayne had Beth & DuWayne Jr.
Can someone help me make the direct connection back from
DuWayne K. FINLEY to James Finley, born 16?? Dublin IRELAND, son of Augustine?.
p.s., I am also interested in where and when they lived
in Tennessee.
