Can you help me solve my murder mystery?

Classification: Query
Surnames: Jones, Simmons, Johnson,
I have been looking for my great grandfather's bio father for 15 years and my dad for about 30.

So growing up we heard that my great grandfather Jamie Simmons found out when he was 16 years old that his real bio father was a man name of Doc Jones/Dock Jones and real name is Charles Sylvester Jones from Galatia. Well I have found Charles Sylvester Jones on ancestry and know he was born Feb 1865. The story my grandmother told (and keep in mind that her mother died when she was born and she was raised by her father's sister and not her father) was that Doc Jones/Dock Jones was a gambler and killed.

So on the internet just googling like normal I came across this:
The People of the State of Illinois
vs.
DOCK JONES
State of Illinois
Saline County

The Grand Jurors chosen selected and sworn in and for the County of Saline in the name and by the authority of the People of the State of Illinois, upon their oaths present; that Dock Jones whose Christian name other than "Dock" to the grand Jurors is unknown late of said County on the first day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eight four at and within the said county of Saline in the State of Illinois, aforesaid in and upon one EDWARD JOHNSON in the Peace of the said People then and there being feloniously unlawfully willfully and of his malice aforethought did then and there make an assault and he the said Dock Jones with a certain knife which he the said Dock Jones then and there in his right hand upon the belly of him the said Edward johnson then and there feloniously unlawfully and willfully and of his malice aforethought did strike and penetrate giving the said Edward Johnson then and there with the knife aforesaid by the stroke aforesaid in manner aforesaid in and upon the belly if him the said Edward Johnson one mortal wound of the depth of six and of the breadth of four inches of which said mortal wound he the said Edward Johnson did languish and languishing did live one hour and which first day of September in the year last aforesaid of the mortal wound aforesaid he the said Edward Johnson then and there died and so the Grand Jurors aforesaid do say that the said Dock Jones him the said Edward Johnson in the manner and form aforesaid, feloniously willfully and of his malice aforethought did kill and murder contrary to the form of the statute in such case made and provided against the peace and dignity of the said People of the State of Illinois.

I think if this is my doc/dock jones then he would have been 19 years old when this man Edward was killed. Maybe the story was changed a little either on purpose or not. I find it odd that I would find a story that sounds very similar to the one my grandmother told me.

Also some other facts:
My g-grandfather was born in 1900 year. Charles Sylvester Jones was married at the time but 1900 census has him living with his mom as married that year.

Does anyone know how I can see if there was newspaper articles on this? I have written to George Wilson at the newspaper in harrisburg to see what his thoughts are on this.
Or does anyone know how to look up old court cases?

Thank you!!!
