I would like to get the obituary on an Amanda (Ead) Swanson, who was born about 1873 and died Jan. 18, 1891 in Warren County. She was married to an Edward Swanson. Any information on him would be appreciated. I show he later married a Bessie Collins in Henderson county in 1899 and lived in Stronghurst around 1900 but nothing other than that and the fact he and Amanda had a daughter named Reatha Pearl Swanson who was born around 1899.

Thanks,

Eric Swanson

Frank M. Mastin was born in Peoria, ILL 6/30/1846 and served in 77th IL Infantry Co. A in the Civil war. He transfered into 130th IL Inf. He notes his children as Flora 1874, Maud 1879, S. Nellie 1881, Edna 1884, Lucy 1886, Mary 1894 and noted he was marred to Alice Evan at Warren Co,IL. Frank died 9/29/1925 at Knoxville, IL and for some reason his wife Alice (possible came to daughters) came to Mukilteo, Snohomish Co. Washington where she died 11/5/1925. She does mention her daughter Maud Stewart in her request for pension. Our WA Civil War Assoc. is on a project to do bios on our CWV burried at our local cemeteries and since we did not know Frank died at IL we sent for his pension records. If anyone is researching the Mastin/Evan names and connects be glad to share our documents with you.
William D. and Catherine Edwards: Anna, Preston, Flors, Charles, Grace, Ivy

I find this family living in Warren County in both the 1870 and 1880 Censuses; cannot find after that. In both of those censuses William is listed as a blacksmith. William (born about 1836 in IL) and Catherine (born about 1842 in OH) may have married in Warren County. All their children were born in IL: Anna about 1859, Preston about 1860, Flora about 1862, Charles about 1869, Grace about 1874, and Ivy about 1878. Are William and Catherine buried in Warren County? Did they and/or any of their children marry in Warren County? Thanks for any help with these people,
Peggy Hendricks
pphendricks@yahoo.com

I am searching for the above 2 families. Chas. DANIELS was b. 1818 in VA, probably Rockbridge Co., and his wife Eliz. was b. there on 31 Dec 1817. They m. 1837 presumably in Rockbridge Co but do not have documentation of this. They had 3 sons: James M, Robert Woodson (my ancestor) and Charles M. while still in Rockbridge Co. They then moved in 1845 to Pike Co., MO, then in 1865 to Warren Co., IL; then to Jasper Co., IA in 1870. They had 6 other children after the move from Rockbridge (all b. MO): Nancy J., John T. (maybe called Tobe?), Mary J, George W (maybe called Wes), and Susan S., who m. a Linccum (sp?) and had children in IA; Eliz lived with her dau and grandchildren in 1870 Jasper Co., IA census. The DANIEL family met the ROBERTS family in Warren Co.- John ROBERTS (b. 1832 IN) and his wife Eliz. Ann MURRELL(b. 1835 VA) m. in Roseville in 1857, and called on the DANIEL family when their dau. Ella V. was born. Both families migrated to Jasper Co., IA, and John ROBERTS' son George m. Ella V. DANIEL in Jasper Co., IA in 1885. Would like to contact others researching these 2 families.
TIA
Pamela

I have been busily trying to move things from one computer to the other and when I find something that isn't going to work then I ask for a help. I have some very good and dear friends on this list and would like to email me again. MY mind right now is on how to get my files from one computer to another plus, learn Vista. It's different with loads of new gadgets to help you have more problems and shortcuts all over but will get used to it like I did XP. I'm just lucky the last power outage didn't fry my other computer had if that had of happened I think I would be a basket case right now.
I'm starting out the new year this year great an am sorry won't be doing outside research for other people as I have to get to work on my own and work on old and abandoned cemeteries too. there are a couple I want to get going by spring time.

Good Morning fellow researchers
I'm kind of in a bind here I have gotten another computer for Christmas which I desperately needed but we were having troubles here on account of bad weather and then power outages on the week ends in December three week ends in a row we went without power and the last power outage did something to my email program.
If you know of one or would like to help in this venture in Warren County besure to email me. Just wish i could get my email address book off the other one but doesn't seem to be the case. thanks for your help & all who have donated.
Thanks for your help & hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. We sure did.
Happy New plus, thanks to all who donate to the site and when I get things up and running here or even before I can take on more. Have one lady who has sent in the the more we share the more gather.
Happy Days. Need to hear from you if you are a member of the Knox Co Genealogical Society too. I believe that Blanche was married a second time to a Mr. Griffith, but I could be wrong.

I have inherited a photo album circa 1900 that has numerous unidentified people from where I believe to be the Warren and Knox County Illinois area. The identified photos are of Lalla Duffield Burkett (my great aunt), and the rest of these are of unknown relationship. My guess is they may have been neighbors: Milton D. Harvey; Mrs. George Powell; Lee Wingate; William Robinson; Fred Cline; Dave and Carl Nordwall; and a nice family picture of the Nordwalls. I would be happy to email copies of any of these great pictures to any family members. Maybe someone can help me identify the unlabelled pictures.

Hello, It's been awhile since I've posted on here. and wanted to let you know been working behind the scenes when I can and I have just gotten every link fixed on the Warren Co., IL Genealogy Page.
http://genealogytrails.com/ill/warren/

Many of the pages have all been redone. an update on the 1903 History of Warren county,IL, is now online at both places. it is fully online
at http://www.usgennet.org/usa/il/county/warren/
and only lacking one page more for the Genealogy Trails sites.

Sara Hemp has donated obits. Have some online and some not on there yet. Obits I've typed up on both Warren Sites.

Carol Parrish is now online at both sites with the 1886 Portrait & Biographical Album if you can not find your biography online email Carol the the name and she will type it up and then email it to you. Thanks so much for doing this Carol. Carol is also learning about cemetery eservstion as her husband is on the board of one in Floyd
Twp.

Connie Caldwell has donated some early obituaries she had copied while visiting the Galesburg Library.

Mary Mueller contributed Obituaries to both sites Knox and Warren.

I do not have an update page for either site except on the Warren at AHGP there is a Forum on the index page I got from bravenet where I occassionally add them to the page when I think of it.

Teresa Smith has a Brick Wall with the Ray family. She's looking for I'm seeking the death and burial of Margaret Doyel Smith Ray. Margaret was born 30 Jun 1788 in Rowan Co., NC and died between 1860 and 1870 in Warren Co., IL. Her parents were Gregory C Doyel and Martha Gott. She
first married Daniel J Smith 26 Mar 1860, he died 9 Oct 1855. She married Richard Ray 3 Aug 1857 in Knox Co., IL. They were living in Roseville Twp., Warren co., IL in 1860. Richard was listed in the 1870 Swan Twp., Warren Co., IL census as a widower. He died 12 Jan 1873. Any help is greatly appreciated. Especially death record, obituary,
burial site. I have various information on the Smith, Doyel, Clayton, Jones, Ray families. Email me and I will forward onto Teresa She has also typed up the Roseville Cemetery

If I don't have her on the Brick wall page will make one. Also, have another lady seeking Hickerson Ray Information on proving who is father and children were. He died of the Small pox epidemic in Floyd Twp., in 1853-55 not sure on the last part of the date. She's trying to get into
DAR. I'm trying to help her. Hickerson is buried in the Lenox Cemetery, and his son Orville in the Berwick Cemetery. Any one who can help please email me. Thanks!!!!

Will be working on the to get the marriages on the Warren Sites straighted which they are now just have to find one cd. and then it will all be online or have to type it up again. I think I've redone every page or almost every page on the Warren Site this week trying to get them more presentable and all the links working finally. NO Broken links this time. Am so glad,

If you visit my other Warren Site at American History & Genealgoy Project IL Warren. You may get a few pages that ask you to allow access. There is nothing on my web pages that will harm anyone's computer. this has to do with an html protector I put on them a few years ago and now am slowly removing from the pages. So, don't worry on that score. I've had emails where people are mad at me at first because they couldn't just copy and paste the info for their files. But that isn't why it was put on there. It is also causing me problems and am slowly getting it removed. It takes time because you have to get all the code out. and if you don't well anyone knows that will cause you problems but wanted you to know this. Thanks.

And if I've forgotten anyone who has donated to the site I'm sorry andwill add next time I post an update.

I'm also happy to announce I'm being made co-Vice President of the Knox Co., IL Genealogical Society. they have two Vice President's and I get to be one of them.
I am hoping to find obituary information for the following 2 people: Genevieve Edwards died on 26 July 2004 and Alias Thornburg. I don't have a death date for Alias (I think this his name), but I am pretty sure he is buried in Kirkwood Cemetery. I think his parents are James and Mary Ellen Evans Thornburg.

I didn't find anything in Mercer County, so I decided to try Warren.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

She was married to Newton A. SPENCE. I am trying to connect her husband with my husband's family.

I know it is a long shot, but I only have the dates from her gravestone.

Thank you.

Cemeteries in Warren co., IL need your help!!!

Hello fellow researchers below is what I posted on my own board for my Warren county web site @ AHGP. Hickory Point Cemetery really needs some help from people who are descended from the ones buried here or it's not going to be any longer. Read below. I'm only one person trying to do many many jobs in cemeteries, my web pages, and other things and I need some help here and some support in trying to put some semblence back into this cemetery that hasn't had much even through it's own history. We need to do something now.
Thanks.
Foxie
http://www.usgennet.org/usa/il/county/warren/
Read below:

Hello everyone,
Hope you are all sound and safe. Our Weather sure is not cooperating
this spring, We've had cold, damp, rainey, and even a little snow.
Suppose to be getting up into the 60's this next week. But as I am
getting a little tired of it when some of the days are a little better
have been going out to the cemeteries anyway. Spring time is really
good time to be casing a cemetery to find older stones that might be
buried in the soil and such. the Ground is soft muddy right now. But
my daughter Kate and I we muddle through anyway and have a good time
doing it. In some of the newer photographs that will be going online
you also see my dog or rather my father's little Toy_fox terrier. He's
11 years old hardly ever went in a car but once he hears my keys
jingling he's all ready to jump in. Just gets a little cold right now.

I was asked to for some tombstone photos in the Salem Cemetery,
Ellison Twp., Warren County, Illinois for a lady who is trying to join
Daughter's of the American Revolution. Actually this was my first on
this Cemetery for someone to ask about them. Have found out there are
a bunch of Ross's that are buried there and some of the tombstones are
old and broken, sunken into the ground and not in very good shape.
They take good care of it otherwise but the older stones are going and
I didn't get all of them with my older digital I had and hadn't been
back down since with my newer camera so Yesterday, Kate, Bingo Buddy,
my dad's dog, and I headed out to get our sheep some feed and then the
poor things had to wait until after 8pm to get fed because I decided
on the way down we had to go by the Mosher Cemetery, where my great's
and the beginnings of my Wallace family are buried and I've been
looking for over ten years for my great grandmother's tombstones,
Huldah Whitman Wallace, but alas we still did not find hers. We did
however Find her or rather my 4th great grandfather's tombstone. It
was on the back of his wive's Nancy Smith. Her stone is old huge big
white slab that has been broken off for years and still lying in the
same place and I asked Kate if she could lift it up and so we could
look on the other side and there was his name. Walla---William
Wallace. I was so happy. Then we found another little tombstone for a
child, named Edward, son of W. W. & H. J. Wallace we dug it up and
stood it up. This cemetery was let go for many many years and then
cleaned up and some tombstones have been replaced and some of the
older ones are just plain decaying and being broken off and sunken in
ground, piled in an old tree stump. They did however cut out some old
trees from a couple of them. But was happy with the find and re
photographed my own families tombstones with my new camera. Then we
are off again to have lunch in Monmouth at Burger King, my daughter
won't eat at McDonald's.

On the way to the Salem Cemetery, we have to go by the road which goes
to the Hickory Point Cemetery and I've been wanting to see this
cemetery without any of the tall tall grass and weeds before it got
all overgrown again. I had taken most of the tombstones but that was
in the late fall when the grass was High. When taking them for a
couple of people we thought we had gotten them all. Well, we did get a
surprise there and I actually knew the cemetery would NOT be in Really
great condition but was very very much appalled at what we found with
the grass had been burned & cut off. Tombstones are being grunched up
by the mower which on the ones lying on the ground, they are blacked
and greyed from the heavy heat of the fire when burning which I also
realize some is from the lechenin that grows over time but they were
awful. You will be able to see as I'm going to put them all online.
Haven't decided how as of yet but am working on that. I want to help
this poor cemetery that has not had the best of care even in it's
beginnings. And now it's getting worse. A few of the Civil War
monuments really need to be replaced, some of the family stones could
use some help. I'm employing anyone with family in this cemetery for
help!!!!! The township as I've talked to one or two people in the area
really don't care about it and burn it off and mow it once a year but
that is destroying the last resting place of someone's ancestors. The
fence on the east has now been taken down that was there last fall. So
that means they will be plowing up more of it or closer to it for more
corn. Someday they will probably actually plow right over them and
don't think it can't be done because it has been done I know of few
places where this has actually happened and it sickens me. So, if you
have relatives in the Hickory Point Cemetery, Ellison Twp., Warren
Co., IL. Let me hear from you. here is a link to the known people
buried in this cemetery:

http://www.usgennet.org/usa/il/county/warren/hickorypointcem...

when I get the photos online will let you know. Then we headed for the
Salem Cemetery going cross country as I've gotten to know the roads
and where they go in Warren Co., IL. and we ended up going to the
Asbury Cemetery first and now between Kate and I we have all the
tombstones on film for this cemetery. Am going to try and get these
online too with the tombstone lisitngs. Kate dug some tombstones here too.

Then we headed for the Salem Cemetery which is not very far from the
Asbury Cemetery. And Kate and I had the most fun digging up Charles
Ross' tombstone and his wife Pricilda Ross. Hers was the worst we
finally didn't get it all the way up or the bottom part out of the
hole it has sunken into. We were even asking Pricilda to help us by
pushing up from the bottom but she must of been out on another mission
because we didn't get any help there. I was standing on a shovel and
trying to get it to go into the ground and it was taking forever, Kate
got to laughing at me, then I was laughing, then I fell down on the
tombstone, in the hole behind it and we really had a good laugh and
wondered if there was anyone else out there that goes to all this
trouble for someone we don't even know and we had another good laugh.
Kate says it's fun and she likes digging them up. Charles' is in three
pieces and we tried to put it back and laying down so that when they
mow it won't get broken anymore. These tombstones are made of the
white limestone and are in crumbling condition. If they run the mower
over it too many times Charles Ross' tombstone will be in more pieces.

But that was our day. I lost my shoe trying to change pants in one of
the cemeteries and Kate laughed her head off because it was in the
back window of the car and I couldn't even see it. Jeans just didn't
cut it for the cold wind we had and had to put my winter pants on to
keep me warm. Suppose to warm up this week. I surely hope so. Would
like a few days of Spring weather before we have hot summer. Spring is
almost over and it's been cold and rainy.

But pass the word Hickory Point Cemetery. I have a couple of people to
email on it myself whom I took a bunch of tombstone photos for in the
pass and Dave You Black's tombstone is falling apart. Also, found a
Brazelton's tombstones. Remember the name.

Well, have to go and put some laundry in today we have to do domestic
chores before anything. Didn't get any done yesterday with running to
all the cemeteries way down south in Warren County, IL.

Your Friend & Host for Warren County, IL.
Foxie
My research has uncovered many families moved from the Hart, Barren & Edmonson Co Ky area to Warren, Knox & Mercer Co in the early 1900's? There was also a move to this area in the mid 1800's by earlier KY folks.

I would be interested in hearing fom anyone whose families came from that area. Some of the surnames I know of are:
Logsdon
Dennison/Denison
Heatherly
Chapman
Cutliff
Ray
Timberlake
Davis
Hiet

Good Morning,
Now online is Silent Home Cemetery listings will be putting more
tombstone photos on later. Berwick Cemetery which I think I forgot to
mention in the bottom update on the page.
Will be out of Office for the day due to my mother being in the
hospital and the outlook is not good.
On the Warren Co page at Gene Trails are more obituaries and will
also be putting online soon some biographies from the 1903 history of
Warren county.
Have a good day.
Foxie

Feb 18, 07 - 9:04 AM Updates for Warren Co., IL

Hello,
am busily working right now to get the tombstone listings online for
the Silent Home cemetery. Have new biographies online under the
biography section, Teresa has graciously typed up and is now online
the Roseville cemetery listings. Have been trying and have named the
tombstone photos that already online under Silent home cemetery
tombstone photo gallery. Many new additions just have to check them
out. On the other Warren county site at Gene Trails have put or typed
up some new obituaries for the early 1900's am trying to get this
site updated so can work on my own family history book.

We will be having a big reunion our 70th this year on September 2,
2007. Hope to see many new faces this year with a family book I'm
trying to complete if you can ever get one completed. But if you want
to be int he book be sure and email me your information or get a hold
me some way.
Thanks and have a wonderful day.
Also, a brand new Index page is going online this morning for Warren
county, IL. at AHGP site. This is my very first baby and it was
originally made with html text document to word to frontpage 2002 to
frontpage 2003. Thought it best to just start out with a brand new
page. If links don't work be sure to email me. Also, on some pages
the html protector is still on there and I need to take it off as now
it asks for allow access which I have no idea what that means but it
doesn't do anything to your computer or access your computer for
anything. the Html proctector was just protecting my work so other
people could not copy it right off made it harder but doesn't seem to
matter as they did it anyway and now this is causing me problems so
be patient and will have that all taken care of in the next few weeks
too.
Have a wonderful day.

WE have a new baby Lamb and have named her after a good friend from
CA Jac. we call our new baby lamb born on Feb 12, 2007---Lit'le Jac.
she is little but oh so cute.
Happy Days.
You are welcome to post information here Am testing this out but if
get much spam will delete it.
Foxie
Volunteer Knox & Warren RAOK
Member of the Knox & Warren Co.
Two years of diaries written by Roseville, Warren Co., IL, resident Romine H. Ostrander when he was a member of the 1st Colorado Cavalry have been published as "This Soldier Life" by the Colorado Historical Society (coloradohistory.org) as Volume 13 of 'Colorado History' for 2006. Romine Ostrander returned to Roseville sometime in the 1870s and married Julia Young in 1876. He apparently died sometime after the 1910 census. This is an informational post in case anyone wants to obtain a copy of this 120-page book for a local library or historical society.

John and Robert Black, early Warren Co. Pioneers

I'm looking for information concerning John and Robert Black. They are brother and early settlers of Warren Co. Robert was the first teacher in Monmouth, Warren County. He was born abt. 1786 and died in Monmouth, 26 Oct 1846. John was born Aug 24, 1790 and died Feb 4, 1878.

Here's my dilema-both men had sons named John, both these sons apparently moved to IA. The son John who married Sarah Anne Weaver in 1848 is my ancestor. I don't know which he belongs to. Irony is great. The 1850 census shows my John as the head of household along Robert's sons, John
(the elder), his wife Hannah and their children.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks,
Cindy

John Black s/o Robert M. or John?

HELP!!!
I'm trying to figure whether my John R. BLACK is the son John and Hannah BLACK or the son of Robert M. and Rebecca BLACK.

My ancestor, John R. BLACK married Sarah Ann WEAVER in Warren Co., 17 jan 1848. He was born abt 1825 in OH and died Feb 1899 poss. in Adams Co., which is where he is buried. They had these children: eldest Anna Marie, Vanessa J., Alice, Louisa, Harvey B. and William

Apparently both John (hus. of Hannah) and Robert M had a son named John, both mention John in their wills and estate proceedings. Robert died 26 Sept 1846, John 4 feb 1878

Robert & Rebecca had the following children:John, Harvey, William T(urnbull?), Henry and Mary Ann.

John & Hannah had the following: John M., David, Josiah, Eliza, Agnes, James

The reason for the confusion lies in the fact that the 1850 census shows the following;
Black, John 25 OH (my John)
Sarah Ann 22 PA (John's wife)
Ann Maria 2 IL (their daughter)
Harvey 22 OH Robert & Rebecca's son
William T. 14 IL Robert & Rebecca's son
Mary E. 11 IL Robert & Rebecca's dau
John 60 Ireland Father or uncleof John?????
Hannah 55 GA Mother or Aunt of John??????
Rebecca 20 OH John & Hannah's dau
Eliza Jane 16 OH John & Hannah's dau
David 14 OH John & Hannah's son
Simeon 10 OH John & Hannah's son

Robert's son Henry is living with the Alexander TURNBULL family in 1850. I have not found the second son John (of either John or Robert) in the 1850 census.

Here's a few other points:
John BLACK plays a vital role in Robert's estate matters.
I haven't found John R. and Sarah Ann in the Warren Co. census 1860,
Their daughter Anna marries in Jan 1870 in Warren Co.,
John (hus of Hannah) mentions in his 1878 will that son John M. is living in Guthrie Co., IA

Can anyone help me? Also are Robert M and John (hus. of Hannah) brothers? How do the Turnbulls fit into this family?

Thanks so much!

Cindy Foster

Grier Clark Allen, born 8 NOV 1861 Goheenville, Armstrong County, PA, and Mary "May" Ryner, b. 00 AUG 1934 reputedly Monmouth, IL, married 7 NOV 1889 in Grant, Nebraska. They were living in Colorado in 1891 and then went to Armstrong County, PA later in the 1890s. The couple next lived in West Virginia and finally moved to Monmouth, where Grier Clark Allen farmed from 1918 to 1934. When he died on 16 AUG 1934 the family residence was 415 So. Main Street, Monmouth. May Ryner survived her husband, dying at the age of 88 in Monmouth.

Cited in her obituary were the following children: Pearl (who married an L. P. Wolfe), Earl W., Viva Edith, John Dalton (who married Ruth M. ...), Leslie P., and Robert.

Seek any information/leads concerning this family.
Anderson or Johnson Connection with Bureau County Families

I'm trying to unravel my Anderson and Johnson families. I obtained the attached picture from my aunt's estate. Both these ladies are from Bureau County but the picture was taken in Warren County. The note on the back says they are cousins but I have no clue about the connection.

The lady on the left is my Great Great Grandmother Hulda (Johnson) Anderson, born August 7, 1868. She married Andrew P. Anderson and resided in Bureau County.

The other lady is Ellen Anderson Peterson, b. January 1873 and daughter of Peter and Hannah (?) Anderson. She married Henry Lawrence Peterson and they resided in Bureau County.

The note on the back also says that Ellen (Anderson) Peterson has a sister Mrs. Esther Husser, living in Princeton, IL in 1968.

According to the census, Peter Anderson arrived in US in 1868.

Hopefully, someone can connect more dots than me.

Linda

Emert and Lynn families of Monmouth, Illinois

Looking for information on William Lynn and his wife Nancy Jane (Wells) who resided in Monmouth township in mid -1880's, also the family of William S. Emert who was married to Hattie/Nettie Wells. Believe they may have been residing in same area in the 1880's. Nancy Jane and Harriet (Hattie, sometimes seen as Nettie) were sisters both born in Illinois, possibly Adams, Jo Daviess or Pike County. Both were daughters of John Wells and Sarah "Sally" Edwards. Know that the Lynn family had a daughter, Sarah who married in Warren County in 1886.

Any help would be appreciated concerning these sisters and their families.

Possible Obituary LOOKUP for Rosetta (Lucetta) Ross Marsh

If anyone could please look to see if there is an obituary for Rosetta Ross Marsh, I would sure appreciate it. I think that Rosetta might have been adopted by Joseph Reed Morris and Martha Larimer, but have no way of finding that out. Rosetta or Lucetta "Morris"(as she was referred to in the 1870 Iowa, Lucas, Chariton census) moved to Warren County, Illinois, where she is found in the 1880 Census. She married a man named Theophilus Marsh 09/01/1884 in Warren County Illinois, where her name was reported as Rosetta Ross. They were next found in the 1900 Iowa, Lucas, Lincoln census. Their children's names were Mattie M, Walter B, Edna V and Artie L Marsh. Lucetta or Rosetta was supposedly born on Oct. 17 1864 Lucas County. The death date I have for her is Oct 5, 1946 in Galesburg, IL. If anyone has any information could you please contact me @ tysonalexander2@hotmail.com . Any information would be greatly appreciated Sincerely Bonnie Miller

I'm interested in finding anyone related to the following:
Arvie Albert who married Ernest Allen Cunningham
Ernest W. Albert who married Ruth McMillian
Bertha Albert who married Harold Strong
and Johnie Albert who married Mary Hendrickson.
Their sister, Maggie Albert, was my grandmother. I have her ancestry going back to the 1700s in Switzerland on one line and would love to corrospond with any relatives
