Youth, 18, Dies

was driving veered into the eastbound lane of traffic on "death curve." Peterson's car, knocked backward and turned around, faced west in the eastbound lane after the crash.
Smith, Zittle, and Peterson were thrown out of the cars and landed on the ground. Peterson and Miss Adee were found in the middle of the pavement.
Purchased Beer

One of the injured told Deputy Sheriffs Joe Ferona and Mike Isparro that Darrold Russell attempted to purchase beer in three Winnebago county taverns. He was turned down each time because of his age. The youths finally went to Beloit, Wisl, where Russell was legally able to purchase two six-can packages and a quart of beer.
King said a second of the injured teen-agers will be able to point out the place where the beer was obtained although neither youth can remember the name of the tavern.
Attended Festival
From Beloit, the eight youths went to the Cherry festival in Cherry Valley. They were returning home when the accident occurred.
Carter, the fourth to die, was a former East high school student. He was born May 18, 1937 in Waterloo, Ia., and had lived in Rockford for 14 years.
He was the son of Herbert L. Carter, of the Kishwaukee St. address, and Mrs. Elsie M. Federly, Fort Atkinson, Wis. Survivors include his parents and a sister Sonja, Fort Atkinson.
Arrangements are being completed in the Julian-Poorman funeral home, 304 N. 5th st.
Services will be held at 1:30 pm today for young Carbine in the Sundberg-Chapin funeral home, 215 Hall st. He was born Dec. 11, 1940, the son of Mrs. and Mrs. Harold Carbine, Dixon. His mother died last January. The boy was a pupil in Hall School, 414 N. 3rd st.
Survivors include his father, a sister, Sandra, 10; a brother, Harold Carbine, Jr., 15; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Carbine, Chicago.
Services for Miss Adee will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Monroe Center Community church with the Rev. Carlton F. Spencer, pastor, officiating.
She was born Jan. 12, 1936, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Adee.
A 1954 graduate of Monroe Center high school, she was president of the senior class. Survivors include her parents, and a sister, Mrs. Merle Lantz, Monroe Center.
Burial will be in Monroe Center cemetery. Friends may call until noon today in the Vrba chapel, Kirkland.
Darrold Russell was born Oct. 23, 1934, in Aberdeen, S.D., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Russell. He had been employed by the Williamson Motor Company since moving to Rockford five months ago.
Survivors include his father, Harold Russell, Elgin; his mother, Mrs. Wilma Johnson, Rockford; two brothers, Gerald and Larry, both of Elgin; three sisters, Dar Jean, Rose Ann, and Connie Elizabeth, all of Elgin; and grandmother, Mrs. Anna Gardner, Rockford.
Arrangements are being completed in the Sundberg-Chapin funeral home, 215 Hall st.
