Beatrice E. Melchi, 77, 1016 Russell St., active in the Democratic party for many years, died at 10:43 p.m. Saturday at the Adams County Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for two weeks. She had been in ill health since Memorial Day, 1981.
Mrs. Melchi, who attended the Church of God in Decatur, was a vice-committeeperson for the Democratic party for many years and also worked at precincts on numerous elections.
She was born on July 14, 1904, in Decatur, the daughter of Charles and Maude Fuller-Patterson (sic, should be Peterson), and was married in Decatur on Oct. 27, 1923, to Nathan (Eugene) Melchi.
Survivors include the husband; four children, Eugene N., Fort Wayne; Manfred (Pete), Fremont; Floyd (Buster) Melchi, Remington; Mrs. Lewis (Bonnie L.) Schnepp, Fort Wayne; a sister, Mrs. Lynn (Thelma) Shirk, Fort Wayne; a brother, Ralph C. Peterson, Goshen; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. One son, Max E., died in 1944, and one sister and one brother also preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Zwick, Boltz & Jahn Funeral Home, with Rev. Kenneth J. Mishler officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today.
