I have transcribed this article exactly as it appeared in the newspaper from a poor xerox copy. The xerox copy did not have a newspaper name but was taped on the same page which had 1940s articles from the Hartford City newspaper. The Hartford City, Blackford County, Indiana newspaper has been sold many times over the years and published under various names. As such, a representative of the current the News Times of Hartford City has granted permission to reprint the following article. Peggy Karol (1/15/99)

Dorie Arthur WILLIAMS, 71, life-long resident and retired carpenter of this county, died at 1:50 oÂ’clock, Friday afternoon at the Blackford county hospital, where he had been a patient since December 28th. Death was attributed to cancer of the liver and complications. His condition had been critical for the past four weeks.

The body was removed to the Burk and Fenning funeral home for burial preparation and will lie in state there until the funeral hour, which has not been definitely set, pending the arrival of out-of-town relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Union Chapel church, west of this city, and burial will take place in the I. O. O. F. cemetery in Matthews.

Survivors include eight daughters: Mrs. Iva COOK, west Fulton street; Josephine and Mrs. Crystal LITTLE, of Muncie; Mrs. Macie SMITH, of Albany; Mrs. Chole WHITACRE, of Montpelier; Jessie of Lafayette; and Mrs. Corda WESNER, of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sons, Gola WILLIAMS, of Muncie; and Ernest WILLIAMS, who resides south of Pennville, on State Road 1; two brothers, Charles O. WILLIAMS, resident southwest of this city; and Andrew WILLIAMS, of near Upland, an Aunt, Mrs. Sarah DAUGHERTY, north High Street; and a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Mr. WILLIAMS was born in April, 1871, southwest of this city a son of the late Henry and Jane (WALKER) WILLIAMS. Two sisters, Mrs. Frank HUDSON and Myrtle WILLIAMS, and one brother, Cleo WILLIAMS have also preceded him in death.

For a number of years, Mr. WILLIAMS was a resident of south Maple street, this city. He moved to Montpelier in November

This obituary was included in a group of several obituaries of descendants of Gilbert TOWNSEND Sr. and Mary (Polly) SAXON and her parents, John SAXON and ELizabeth EVANS. These two men came to Indiana ca. 1839 with several members of their extended families.
