"MRS. COURTNEY TAKEN BY DEATH WEDNES. NIGHT. NANCY COURTNEY, 74, WILL BE BURIED FRIDAY AFTERNOON.
Elnora, Ind., May 16 - Mrs. Nancy COURTNEY, 74, widow of the late George COURTNEY and a well known Elnora resident for the past 55 years, died Wednesday night at 7 o'clock at the family home. Death of Mrs. COURTNEY was attributed to a complication of ailments, resulting from a fracture of the hip received two months ago at her home.
Native of Greene county, the deceased was born September 28, 1865, a daughter of Warren and Nancy (BAKER) JOHNSON. As a young woman she married Mr. COURTNEY, who preceded her in death on May 31, 1937.
Three children of the union survive. They are Mrs. Nellie TROTTER of Linton, Ralph and Edna COURTNEY of Elnora. Also are one brother, Gideon JOHNSON of Bloomfield, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. COURTNEY was a member of the Elnora Christian church, and funeral services will be held there at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon with Rev. R. F. Laycock in charge. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery, with W. H. Tomey in charge."
