Am not researching this line, just trying to be helpful. Madison Cole married Sarah J Swing in neighboring Ripley county on 13 Aug 1848. In the 1850 census for Indiana, Ripley county, Washington township, page 27 the family was headed by Madison Cole, 23, farmer, born in Ind and included Sarah J, 16, Ind. She must have married very young. Try as I might I could not find them in the 1860 census anywhere in the US. In the 1870 census the family was in Iowa, Clinton county, Clinton township, post office of Clinton, page 65, and was headed by Madison Cole, 44, farmer, born in Ind, and included Sarah J, 35, keeping house, Ind, - Laura A, 17, Ind, - Abigail F, 14, Ind, - Francis, 11, Ia, - John L, 9, Ia, - William L, 7, Ia, - Inez, 5, Ia, - Charles H, 4, Ia, and a hired hand Francis M Rea, 21, laborer, Ind. In the 1880 census the family was still in Iowa, Clinton county, Lincoln township, Dist 304, page 3, and was headed by Madison Cole, 53, farmer, born in Ind, father in Va and mother in Ky, and included his wife Sarah J, 45, keeping house, Ind, both parents in Ohio, his son John L, 19, Ia, his son William L, 17, Ia, his daughter Inez, 15, Ia, his son Charles H, 13, Ia, and his son Abram U, 9, Ia. As you may know, the 1890 census was destroyed in a fire some time ago so is not available for research. Could not find them in the 1900 census. Hope this helps. Don
