The death of George F. Metcalf, a resident of Garrett for forty-seven years, took place at 5:12 o'clock Monday after noon at his home, 316 East High street.
Mr. Metcalf had been suffering from paralysis for the last three years. He fell against the hard coal stove in his home Saturday and struck his head. He was unconscious most to the time afterwards.
Born at Cedar Rapids, Ia., Feb. 14, 1855, Mr. Metcalf was in his seventy-fifth year. He was formerly employed by the Baltimore & Ohio as a locomotive engineer and later worked in the Baltimore & Ohio shops. He and Ardella Wise were married May 16, 1877. The widow survives with four children, Mrs. Harry Thompson and Clyde Metcalf of Flint, Mich., Mrs. Cal Edwards of Auburn and John C. Metcalf of Garrett.
The funeral will be held at the home Thursday morning at 10 o'clock and interment will be made in White City cemetery, Spencerville.
The Rev. J. M. Davies officiated. The pallbearers are B. F. Lehmbeck, Edward Strouse, H. A. Gard, Frank Kline, Lawrence Monroe and Jacob Loutzenheiser. (Re: Obituary Book, vol 5, page 70)
