BIOGRAPHY: Isaac Palmer was the only son who did not remain in Kansas. His brother, Cary, Had bought the brother's and sister's shares of the estate in Fountain County Indiana after their father had died. Isaac bought the property by the time Cary moved to Kansas in 1887. In the meantime, it appears from a deed in Allen County, Kansas, that Isaac did spend a few years in Kansas and then returned to Indiana. He was in Indiana again by 1893 when his brother Michael died. Isaac died in 1898 and is buried in Fountain County, Indiana. Isaac and his half-brother Enoch were the sons who administered the estate of their father.

BIOGRAPHY: Most of what I presently know about Squire Davis comes from Kelly Bauer, great, great grandson of Squire, and grandson of Hannah Davis.Squire married three times. His 14 children were by his first wife Mariah French. Mariah was 42 when she had her last child, and she died shortly after giving birth. Squire's second wife, Mary Ann " , was killed when she fell from a horse, and his third wife, Sarah Sample,divorced him.
BIOGRAPHY: According to Kelly,the probate court of Union County has many records of court proceedings involving Squire. Either he was suing someone or they were suing him. Most cases were about money. Squire adopted Sarah Sample's children, and they sued for their share of the estate when squire died. When Sarah divorced Squire she sued for $550.00 in alimony.
BIOGRAPHY: Kelly feels that Squire descended from James Davis who fought in the Revolutionary War, and who was raised and married in New Jersey. There are several sons that could have been Squire's father, but the most likely is Bartholomew. Squire was born in Kentucky, according to the 1850 census. In 1977 I learned from a descendant of Bartholomew Davis that Squire was not a son of Bartholomew.
BIOGRAPHY: Addendum to my notes of 1994. Evidently Kelly Bauer got caught up in the art of living over the past few years, so the Davis research was put on hold by both of us. In 1997 I found myself on the internet with a Davis researching the family. I emailed him and he gave me the information of James Davis and Mary Taylor and Bartholomew Davis and Rachael Maxwell. There is no evidence in the information he sent that Squire Davis had any relationship to this family. He did not share any information on Samuel, John W. or Isaac Davis children. It is back to the drawing board on this family.
BIOGRAPHY: The Obit found in the Connersville IN newspaper is quite long and interesting to read. He was 74 years of age at his death. He was living near Springersville, IN with his son Sylvanus. It is said that he went to bed early, said something to his son about 9 P.M., got up and went outside several times in the night which was not unusual. When he was called to breakfast about 6 am the next morning, he gave no response. He was not in his room, but was found him hanging to a ladder in the barn. It was thought that he had been dead for about an hour. It was thought that he was depressed because of financial reverses in which he lost his farm in Union County. He had been having domestic troubles with his wife, Sarah Sample, who had divorced him and was getting alimony. He had tried to take his life twice before he was successful. Squire had been a resident of Union County or sixty years which made him 14 years old when he went to Union County.
The Coroner's report published in the newspaper says that Squire was 5ft. 10 in tall, dark hair, blue eyes, and weighed about 140 pounds. His personal effects included a pocket knife, a silver tobacco box, 1comb, 1 plug tobacco, an "instrument of writing between himself and Jacob Masters about pasture lands, and several different denominations of money.
BIOGRAPHY: I have communicated with a number of Davis Family researcher. None have had any success finding the origins of Squire Davis. None of the leads have worked out. One woman in Indiana has searched every where she can think of and finds no answers.
BIOGRAPHY: In August of 1998 I received an email from Kelly Bauer. He is obviously on the trail of Squire. He states that his real name was Sylvanus Squire Davis and he sites one obituary, one court case and cemetery listing of two Sylvanus Davis's in Union Cemetery in Fayette Co. IN. One is his son Sylvanus Davis and Squire is buried in an unmarked grave. The Cemetery plot book show the location and the name listed as Sylvanus squire Davis. Kelly believes that Abrham Davis who married Mary Phenis are from Georgia and he thinks Abraham was born in 1817. Squire had a sister named Eliza Jane Davis who married Abraham Phenis and she was born in 1820.

Robert G. Abernathy
LIBERTY, Ind. -- Robert Gerald Abernathy, 76, of Tavares, Fla., passed away on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, following a brief illness.
He was born in Union County, Ind., in 1931 to Robert and Ruth Abernathy.
He joined the Navy Air Force following high school. Following his military career, Bob was a manager at Avco, where he was part of the team that developed the VCR.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Hazel (Miller) Abernathy; and seven children, Cynthia Frish of New York, Vicki Abernathy of California, Jeffery Abernathy of Kentucky, Christine Macke of Virginia, Kimberly Stamper of Kentucky, Jeni Reed of Umatilla, Fla., and Amy Krueger of Mount Dora, Fla. He is also survived by brothers, Harold Abernathy of Liberty, Ind., and Rodger Abernathy of Winter Springs, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald (Dick) Abernathy.
Public graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at Sims Cemetery (Franklin County).
