Lowanda Marie Prosser, 73, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013 at her residence.
She was born to the late Frederick and Clara (Newsom) Jeffries, August 6, 1940 in Marion, Indiana.
Lowanda was a 1958 graduate of Marion High School.
Upon completion, she worked as a secretary for the county, state and finishing on the federal level.
Her career began at the Grant County Court House, then to Indianapolis at the Indiana State Office Building, finishing her career in Washington D.C. at the Food & Drug Administration.
While working at the FDA, she met her soul-mate and husband of 44 years Allan R. Prosser, who survives.
They were blessed with one son, Allan F. Prosser of Carmel, Indiana.
Lowanda and Allan lived in Oxon-Hill, Maryland for a few years, moving to Cincinnati, Ohio, when Allan's job relocated him to that area.
In 1997 they returned to live in Marion and once again Lowanda could live in her hometown (where she loved so well.)
At Allen Temple she had served on the Steward Board and was a former member of the Temple Tones Choir.
Currently she was serving with the Lay organization and was former President now serving as Vice President of the Fannie J. Coppen Missionary Society.
In the community she was known for her willingness to help out others. She assumed the role as caregiver, friend and 'Mom" to many.
She served for many years as a clerk at the various voting locations in Grant County.
Lowanda also was a life subscribing member of the NAACP.
She got a joy while traveling to the various senior citizen functions in Jonesboro, Marion and in the Cincinnati, Ohio area locations.
Her hobbies included photography, traveling, shopping, sewing and designing hats.
She also enjoyed watching basketball and had a love for all cars.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Allan R.; son, Allan F. (Carmen) Prosser, Carmel, Indiana. One brother, Ronald F. Jeffries, Anderson, Indiana; two sisters, Annellden (Evan) Jones and Arneta (Ted) Reed, both of Marion, IN; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends; special friends, John and Lucy Miller and Helen Thompson.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Allen Temple A.M.E. Church with Rev. Shonda N. Gladden officiating.
Burial will be in Estates of Serenity, Marion. Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m., Wednesday November 6, 2013 at Needham-Storey- Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Avenue, Marion, Indiana.
