I recently visited the Grant County Health Department. I live in Marion, Indiana. You may request in writing the birth record of a family member. Just give them a date.....at least a year, and the name. They do not give copies of the records. They fill out a paper stating the name of the person, date and place of birth, mother's name, age and birthplace. They do the same for the father and list the book# and the number of children born to this mother.
They did not charge me since I was doing this for genealogy and unless you want a certified copy, I dont believe they will charge you.
