Christopher Sears was born in Highland Co Ohio 7 Aug. 1814 and died in Grant Co Indiana on 28 Feb. 1909. He was the son of John and Penelope (Johnson) Sears, who were born in Virginia. His father died when he was two years old. He married 24 Aug 1837 Clinton Co Ohio Lydia Janet Craw b. 15 Nov. 1815 died 9 Jan. 1898 Grant Co Indiana. Both Christopher and Lydia are buried in Fairview Cemetery, Washington Twp, Grant Co Indiana. She was the daughter of John P. Craw b. MA and Mary Ann Adsit b. NY. Most of her family came to Delaware Co Indiana from Clinton Co Ohio.
Mr.and Mr. Sears lived in Washington Twp, in Grant Co Indiana and came to the county before 1840. They had eight children: Amos Welch Sears b. 15 June 1838 Ohio d. as a teenager 12 March 1857; Isabelle b. 7 October 1840 d. 2 April 1878 Grant Co Indiana, she was the first wife of Phineas T. Howard of Grant Co Indiana. They had five children.; Caroline b. 21 Oct. 1842 m. Jesse David Wright; Mary b. 1 July 1845 m. Joseph Kein; John b. 18 Aug. 1847 m. Victoria ________. They had three children; Maria b. 3 June 1849 d. Nov 1872 Grant Co Indiana m. Greenleaf N. Campbell. They had six children; George Adsit Sears b. 29 Dec. 1851 d. 27 Jan. 1875; Alice Jeanette b. 18 Jan 1855 m. John J. Brown
1877, had a daughter Ethel.
Mr. Sears was raised as a member of the Quaker faith. One evening he and his wife drove the buggy in the winter to a Quaker meeting some distance away, only to find out that the meeting was for men only. His wife was forced to sit outside in the cold. This caused them to switch to the Methodist faith.
