Surnames: Ooley, Lawson, Russell, Romine, Fisher, Franks, Franklin
My grandmother was Amanda LAWSON born Greene County, IN July 15, 1854. Married John Henry RUSSELL August 1, 1875 Bement, Piat Co, Ill. Her name on marriage record is Mary A. Lawson. Her mother's name was OOLEY. WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND ON THAT NAME? I think her parents may have been John LAWSON and Martha Ann OOLEY. Grandparents Barnes LAWSON from Kentucky and Eliza STEWART and Robert OOLEY and Rachel FRANKLIN. WHERE DID THE OOLEY NAME ORIGINATE FROM? I have seen several other queries where people like myself may have thought it was spelled incorrectly because they will have several variations of the spelling of Ooley. Is there a possiblity of it being a Cherokee spelling? Just an old family rumor I would like to solve.
