Want to get a glimpse at what life was like in the mid-1800's? Stop by the Danville Public Library (101 S. Indiana St., Danville IN 46122; www.dplindiana.org) on Saturday, April 6 any time from 9 am to 4 pm to help unfold and organize some of Hendricks County's probate records.

This is part of the Indiana Genealogical Society's continuing effort to preserve and digitize Hendricks County's early probate records, which are currently stored in the courthouse basement. Unfolding and organizing the documents is crucial preparation for the end goal - being digitized and put online for free access at the Indiana Genealogical Society's website (www.indgensoc.org).

Since this project began, over 2,700 probate records have been worked on, and over 700 of them are online already (see http://www.indgensoc.org/projects/records_preservation.php), with more on the way.

You can stay for as little or as long as you like - lunch is on your own. Please register with the library – register online through the events calendar on the library's website (http://www.dplindiana.org/dplevents/eventcalendar.asp) or by contacting the library - phone (317) 745-2604.
