Samuel Sylvestor Taylor, John Taylor, Robert Taylor

William Robert Taylor was an early settler in Grant Co, IN. Wife Mary Taylor nee Hoppes buried in Pence Cem is FaG memorial 27217000. I am pretty sure William's son Samuel went to live in Richland, Jay Co, IN near John M. Taylor who I believe was Samuel's uncle i.e. William Robert's brother.

Another son William Preston Taylor b 9 Mar 1839 in Fayette Co, OH is apparently in Richland, Jay Co, IN in 1852/53 at school based on the Richland school record.

I am pretty sure William R. and Mary were also the parents of my Robert Taylor who married Rebecca Caylor in Jay Co, IN in 1850, probably Richland Twp. One daughter was Sarah Emma Taylor probably born Grant Co although son William Preston was born Jay Co in 1851.

These TAYLORs are connected to many early Jay Co families e.g. McKinney, Hoppes, Maitlen, & Fiers.

There is lots of info on these TAYLORs. Anybody with interest in them email LRAYVICK@cox.net

Ray
thanks for the information, that gives me a lot more on the Rooks, I have been trying for months to find a marriage record for Emma Rook and George Forddred and boy is it hard, I am not even sure where and when they met, I do know they lived in Tacoma because that is where my grandmother was born and I know they were in Canada since James was born there. I have no idea what became of George Forddred-from what we were told was that he left Emma because my grandmother had been born deaf, Emma married John James Eden in Canada where James was born and her marriage license says widow but I also can't find a death record for George Forddred. Thanks again for your help Teri

One additional bit of info - I'm trying to track down the Tummins name - believe it would have been the surname of an earlier ancestor. Will share any progress.

I'm also trying to track down Levi's son's middle name - Connelly - believe that, too, might help trace further back.

I've misplaced the obit for L. T. Norris.

As a result of inaccurate oral history of the family I initially dismissed the possibility of a second marriage. My apologies. It does fit in with another tidbit - that of Earl Connelly Norris requesting that his wife not remarry upon his death due to potential difficulties with different families.

The age difference is throwing me. You indicate he was born 30 Jan 1820 while 1870 census shows his age as 30 and 1880 census shows his age as 49.

Will you send obit info to me?

Thanks!

Hi Jan,
Email me privately at arpaggie@aol.com and I will send you my address. This is so exciting to know more about my Norris line. The children of Levi's were sent to other families to work. William and David K. Norris married cousins. Levi enlisted in the Army in 1861 and was probably gone when his wife died and the children divided up.

I have wanted to go back to Ohio to see family sites for years and now I want to include Indiana.

Jane Delaplane Lacy
TX

While there may not be any adoption records there may be a guardianship set up for the children. This is more likely if there was any money in the biological parent's estate.

Look in the Guardianship records or administrative records for the probate court. Don't forget the accounting records where trust etc. were monitored and closed out.

You may find some clues in the will of the people who adopted the children.

I have just completed a project to find information on the adoption of a 2nd great grandfather.

Flesher Cemetery is located east and just a little south of Redkey, Jay County, Indiana in the middle of West CR 650 South, and South CR 550 East terminates right at the cemetery. Probably the easiest way to find it is to go to Google Maps, search for the following: Flesher Cemetery, Jefferson, Jay County, IN and press the enter key. If you back the map out a little, you should be able to easily find it.
