Death of Charles P. ELLIOTT

" Charles P. ELLIOTT, a former resident of the Bruning (NE) vicinity, died Feb. 10 (or 19) near Paonia, CO. The following article tells of Mr. ELLIOTTs death:

Gunnison, CO. - A Colorado mountain ranch woman, nearly sixty, walked for two days over four feet of snow on improvised snowshoes, covering fifteen miles, to bring out the news of her husbands death. Coroner Alex Campbell said it took six men two more days to reach the womans cabin and bring out the body of her husband, Charles ELLIOTT,sixty-five who died of a hemorrhage.

The ELLIOTTs had been living in a cabin on Snowshoe mesa in a wild section of western Gunnison county. ELLIOTT fell ill on Saturday and by noon was dead. Mrs. ELLIOTT slept that night in a deserted ranch house. The next night she reached an occupied ranch house and was taken to Paonia Monday, apparenly suffering little."

This was taken from a NE. newspaper (probably the NE. Signal). It doesn't give a year but I think it was between 1938-1943.

Charles P. ELLIOTT was the son of Robert and Katherine (PATTON) ELLIOTT. Charles married Sarah Emmeline,(WILLIAMS 1876-1930), in 1908. They divorced in 1913. They had one child, Sarah Nancy(WILLIAMS 1909-1971). Sarah Nancy married Ira Lewis FRAZIER(1906-1971), my parents. Charles went to CO. after the divorce and apparently remarried but I don't know yet who - still working on that.

I have just discovered this side of my family and I'm very excited about it!!
