Re: Stuart's in Indiana Kosciusko County

I had no idea there were Stuarts in Koscuisko County, Indiana. My maternal great grandmother was a descendant of Irwin Stuart and Hannah Ballinger. I am also a descendant of Henry Imel whose brother, Peter's descendants settled in Koscuisko County. Are there any Imels intermarried with the Stuarts there? This county name literally jumped of the page at me, because my son-in-law is a descendant of the Koscuisko County Imels, believe it or not as well, and I did family research for him . And yes the answer to your next question is...my grandchildren are also my distant cousins as a result of this. They thought that was really cool when I reported the other family connection that we have.

Marie J. Park/Parks, M.D. in Warsaw early 1870's

I have a collection of letters from a young girl named Jennie, attending the Steubenville Female Seminary, Steubenville, Ohio in the early 1870's who spends her vacations in Warsaw, Indiana. I gather from reading these letters that Jennie is the daughter of Marie J. Park/Parks, who seems to have attended Medical School in New York with my great grandfather between the Civil War and 1870. I suspect that Jennie's last name may have been Park or Parks, but I am not sure of this. One letter seeming to be from Marie says she went 10 miles out of town on a case and nearly got stuck in the mud trying to get home. In the 1880 Census I can find a Marie J. Furlong, 42, Physician, and wife of Gilbert Furlong, Marble dealer. I cannot find out anything further except Gilbert seems to have married Annie J. Hipkins in 1889. My great-grandfather did not marry into this family and I would like to share these letters with anyone who can prove they are descendants of Jennie or Marie. Does anyone have any ideas?
I am wishing to connect with other Reed family members. I am from the Elkhart and Kosciusko County lines. I have hit a brick wall on my family tree. It is with Lemeul Reed and Catherine. They had 7 children: Alice, Charles, Alvin, Joanna, William, Rosa and Florence (Flora). I know that Rosa married Davis Waggoner and Florence married William Cleveland. If this lineage sound similar to yours... please write me.

Seeking information on Joseph and Mary MATTIX. They were divorced in Kosciusko County in 1863. Joseph died in about August 1869, and his Will was probated in Kosciusko County. I do not know his exact date of death, nor do I know where he is buried. The last residence I have for him is a farm in Prairie Township. Mary lived with her son, Robert, after the divorce. She died July 27, 1891. Records of the Tucker Funeral Home in Claypool show the burial of "Grandma Maticks" in Center Cemetery, Lake Township. I have been unable to find any stone for her in that cemetery. Any information on either of these people, who are my gg-grandparents, would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for Carolind Drake's parents. She is buried in Wysox Church Cemetary Wysox,Pa. She was my grandfather's mother. She died just after 1900. She is buried under the name Carrie. She was married to Judson Decker when she died. I can't figure out who her parents are. She died when my grandfather was a child under 5. The Drakes stayed in town for a while but then they are gone. Can't place her with a family. There was a Charlie Drake that used to tell me we were related when I was pretty young. He just never said how. Any help would be appreciated.

Kibler's in Kosciuko - Philip, Margaret, Fred W.

I am seeking any information regarding my ggf Fred W. Kibler. There are indications that Fred was born in Oswego, Kosciusko, IN on May 15, 1853. Though I have not found any census' of Fred or his parents, Philip and Margret Kibler in the Kosciusko area, I did find them in a June 23, 1870 census in Wapello, Town Center, Iowa with a brother named Erza W. In this census, Fred is listed as age 16 and Erza 14. Philp (a farmer) is now age 65 and indicates he is from Penn. Margaret, age 58, indicates she is from Penn. Interestingly, I found one census from Kosciusko dated July 27, 1870 (same year - also summer) in Plain Township listing a Philip Kibler, age 30, working as a boot and shoemaker who lists himself also from Penn. I am wondering if Philip could be Philip and Margret's eldest son perhaps that did not follow them to Wapello or if there is any relation ?

I have found several census records showing other Kibler's in the area, however it is unknown if they are related to my Kibler lineage. Of interest there are several children with the surname Kibler shown living in other households. I assume they could be orphans. One is Phebe Kibler, shown in an 1860 Kosciusko census, age 3 who is living in the Hiner residence. I can't quite make out the township on this page, possibly Wayne. On the same page, Christopher Kibler, age 5 is living in another household - looks like either Milford or Woolford. Both children appear to have been born in OH. The head of the Hiner residence was from Penn. As is the head of the Milford (or Woolford) residence also from Penn.

Any information would be appreciated.

If anyone happens to have any information on the Kibler families it would be deeply appreciated.

Thank you, Lori Dubay

Seeking information on the Weaver Family who lived in Kosciusko County, Indiana from about 1843 until at least 1860.
James Weaver, b. 1810 in Va, married Nancy Hager in Montgomery County, Ohio in 1836. They moved to Kosciusko County, Indiana aroudn 1842. James was a farmer and he lived in Turkey Creek Township. Based on the 1850 Census they had the following children: Elizabeth, Samuel, John P., Hager, Susan J, and James H. Another childen, Martha was born in 1853. It appears that James and Nancy died around 1855 because we kind four of the Weaver children (Samuel, Susan, James and Martha) living with Hiram and Ann Kindle family in Tippecanoe Township in 1860. Can anyone provide further information on this family?

Nov.14,1856 in Milford, Indiana At the time of her death in 1914,she had the following siblings : Eliza Horton, Elizabeth Morehouse, Hulda Efford William and Newton Babcock, and Clara Martin. At one time she had been married to John VAN TRUMP. At least he is the father of her daughter Glady Van Trump- HECKMAN . I have no idea of her parents names either. If anyone can help with this family line , I sure would appreciate it. I know that Mary later moved to Lakeville , Indiana, and then to South Bend , Indiana where she married Lafayette Heckman. This is also where she died and is buried. Thank you.

I would love to come in contact with anyone with knowledge of this family. It may be possible that Daniel born 1801 also goes by the name of George and the surname is Burket/Burkett/Burget/Burgett. There are Burkett's and Burgett's list on information in Kosciusko Co, IN on the 1860 census and in other informative sites at the GenWeb Kosciusko Co, IN web page. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Brenda in IL

Ok, I know the info is out there, and anyone who could help me would be an angel.
The family story goes that my G Grandmother was born a "Sexton" in Nebraska 2 Oct 1880. She was adopted by an Anderson family. Her name when she married my G Grandfather (William (Wink) Foughty) was Georgia Anderson. She appears on the 1900 census Kosiusko Co. Indiana. I have not been able to trace her before that. I unfortunatley do not have her adopted or birth parents names. I have messages posted on several websites. If anyone has a clue please post a reply, if it doesnt pan out, well at least it is a start. I have exhausted my ideas. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and Happy Hunting in your searches.

Monica

Richard Lee, b 1791, VA

Looking for information on the Richard LEE born about 1791in Virginia, who is in Franklin Township, Kosciusko County, Indiana for the 1840, 1850 and 1860 census (occupation is listed as farmer and physician). He had a wife Susan (born about 1790 in Virginia, died 1850-1860) and at least one child, Isaiah M. Lee (born about 1829 in Ohio), who married Almira Parcelle, 7 January 1849 in Kosciusko County and moved to Marshall County, Indiana by the 1870 Census. This is apparently the same Richard Lee who is in Warren County, Ohio for the 1830 census. I am trying to prove if he is the same Richard LEE born 18 January 1791 in Washington County, Virginia, twin brother of Levi Lee who married Mary Virginia MARCUS and brother of my grgr grandfather, George W. LEE who was born in 1797 in Washington County, Virginia. There were 16 children born to Abner LEE and Catherine WILSON. Children born after about 1800 were born in Jackson County, Tennesee.
If you know that this Richard is the son of Abner LEE and Catherine WILSON, I would appreciate hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Irene E.

I was defrauded of $5,600.00 by Charles Rogers, roof conrtractor, from Warsaw,IN. He was supposed to fix the roof on my house on 1730 Central Ave., Anderson, IN. He never did the job and disappeared with the money. Anderson Police Department so far has not been very helpful. Please advise, how to stop Charles Rogers, who is going around deceiving other people. I have to work 2 months for this money teaching classes mornings and evenings. And I owe to credit card for Charles Rogers. Please advise how to fight this fraud or warn other residents of Warsaw of Charles Rogers and his wife Virginia. Virginia personally took the last check of $2,800.00 from me on June 23, 2006, when I was in Anderson, and when recently asked by a BidClerk from Internet about my case, said, that she did not know me. Please advise how to find justice. Thank you. Sincerely, Zoia Burkhart, a teacher in California

Ritter and Hamman families in Kosciusko

Using results from y-chromosomes, we've found that the Hammans and Ritters were not single-origin surnames within Kosciusko County. There were two separate Ritter families--one that migrated from from Stark Co, OH and one from Tuscarawas Co., OH. I'm descended from both of them. There are also two different Hammans, my family from NE Kosciusko and DeKalb (migrating from Tuscarawas and Stark) and a Southern Kosciusko Hamman family related (by y-chromosome test) to a Phillip Hamman who was a Revolutionary War Vet from Virginia (aka Man of Valour, Savior of Greenbourgh). All four families (both Ritters and both Hammans) were assoicated with the Brethren Church.

I'm looking for information on any Thwaits / Thwaits families in Indiana and Ohio. Many of the family lived (and lives) in Kosciusko Co. James Edward and Lydia Ann (Carter) Thwaits' children were Robert, who married Edna Parker' Verla, who married Orville Silveus; Hazel, who married Thomas Kaylor; Hulda Jane, who married Leroy Silveus; Rilla, who married Samuel Hollar; Elmer, who married Jessie Silveus; and Clara, who married Samuel Dausman.

Rose Twaits, who married Samuel Garber, was the sister of James Edward.

There are many more Thwaits family lines that I'm interested in, but James Edward was my husband's greatfather, and I'm really interested in anyone in any of the families listed above. All help is appreciated.

Minvera Jane Finton- illegitimate child

I'm really hoping that there is some way I can obtain a birth record for this person. She was also known as Jennie. This is the latest skeleton in the closet that I've found. She believed herself to be an orphan, but her mother, Martha Gertrude Finton (who married Lewis David Akens) was actually still living. She was born in 1880, five years before her mother was ever married. From what I have been told she was sent away with someone named Frank Cramer in 1888, but I haven't seen evidence of that yet. I think that there was a Frank Cramer that was a minister in Kosciusko Co. ? Does anyone know anything about him?
Minerva Jane married Charles Wysong in Jan 1898 in Goshen.
I just want to get this out there in case someone else turns up that is a relative to any of these lines or has any information to add. This has been a particularly fascinating hunt! :)

Rebecca Akens

Lutheran churches near Sevastopol

My g-g-g- grandmother, Betsy Smith Shively, lived southwest of Sevastapol. Her obit of 1893 says she remained in the Evangelical Lutheran faith from 1844 until she died. Does anyone know what Lutheran congregations may have been near enough for her to have been a member? Her baptism or confirmation would have been in PA. She was living in Kos. co. by 1860. Her funeral services were held in Nichols Chapel.
