Searching for the final resting place of Jacob Schellinger (1816-1894). Jacob, originally from Bridgeton, Cumberland Co, NJ, spent his last years in the Whiting/Hammond, IN area until his death in Whiting on 7 June 1894. Jacob was originally buried in a Whiting cemetery, some times referred to as the Berry Lake Cemetery, located on 121st street, this is/was now the location of Barrel House #2 of the Standard Oil Refinery. In about 1913 all the bodies were exhumed from Berry Lake and re-interned at the New Whiting Cemetery and/or possibly other local area cemeteries, including: Concordia, Greek Catholic, Greenwood, Oak Hill and St John's. Available information indicates the New Whiting Cemetery was/is located on 167th street. It is not clear if this cemetery was/is part of the Jewish Cemetery Association property or not. The Berry Lake records do mention the name Jacob Skellinger (spelling variation) but there is no way to determine which cemetery Jacob ended up in from these records. Myself and another family member have found the graves sites of two of Jacob's sons: Charles K Skellenger and Aaron Schellinger, both CW vets, now we would like to find our gggrandfather's grave site. Any scrap of info that could help identify where Jacob is buried would be appreciated. Mike Skelenger
