Yes, this is a branch of our Spitzmessers! As I said in my email to you, the 1st William was next to the last son of Andrew; William's son Lawrence had a brother, Ralph, and a sister, Ethel. I have run across William Alvin in other research, too. And, I remembered that Betty's name was Betty Jean Spitzmesser Lorenzo. Her husband John was retired military.
If anyone else can help trace the whereabouts of George Spitzmesser, born 1867, youngest child of Andrew & Mary Spitzmesser, please leave a post or email me @ vickisp0430@aol.com. George was also married to Hannah Parkhurst in Alexandria, IN @ the 1900 census. Hannah had 2 sons from previous marriages: Ernest (or Erny) Derry, b.1881; and James V. Hopkins, b. 1895. It is possible that James moved to Blount TN about age 25 & was married @ that time.

It seems that your family is the same that my dads step-father is from. Dads step-father was William Alvin(Alwin)Spitzmesser. He was born 12 Oct 1917 in Indiana. His parents were Lawrence and Estelle Leer Spitzmesser and his grandparents were William and Clara Spitzmesser. His great grandparents were Andrew and Mary Spitzmesser and both of them were born in Germany. I don't have alot of information on my dads step-father William, we called him Alvin and he was mainly around me when I was a young child and my early teens. He married my grandmother in the late 30's or early 40's and they stayed married until her death in 1952. As far as I know he never remarried after her death. If this sounds like a member of your family let me know and I will send you what ever info I have on him. Please e-mail me at Irwybound@aol.com .

Thanks,
Rick Beck
Oh, this is exciting! Yes, Andreas (Andrew) came with 2 others & their families. Andrew moved to Elwood, sometime after his son, George was born. My husband's family is descended from George. Andrew, Joseph, & Gustav were apparently brothers. There are still Spitzmessers living in Germany who are also from Joseph & Joanna-Berthold Spitzmesser still lives in the family home, I think. 2 brothers run an Inn/Restaurant. I will ask Martin or Annette who live near Moos about the address. You may reply to me directly @ vickisp0430@aol.com.
I am interested in this email. I have been working on a project that traces the immigrants from Moos to America. I have found Josef/Joseph Spitzmesser born 1811 who came with his wife Adelheid Wolf and three children to Monroe County New York. Is Andreas/Andrew the person who lived in Elwood? Andrew was born 1818 and left Moos in 1847. I am not familar with the Gustav Spitzmesser that you speak of; perhaps you can tell me more of him. I believe these Spitzmessers lived at 26 Mooser Strasse in Moos and that their parents were Josef Spitzmesser and Joanna Leppert.

Karen,

I certainly do realize that what you've done here has taken quite some time, but basically you were "reinventing the wheel." I say that because I already have the ancestry of Wm. A. Roseberry at least in terms of what applies to me as well. But, my inquiry really was intended to have any interested researchers focus on him, Louise and their son, thinking forward genealogically rather than backward as you've done. Its their descendants that I am hoping to find. I hope I've not killed your interest and do thank you for the time and effort you spent in this pursuit.

William A(lexander?) Roseberry was one of my very distant relatives and was born circa 1903 in Union Co., IA. The 1930 census shows him married to a woman named Louise Roseberry (born circa 1903 in France) and living in Anderson, IN, with one child, William A. Roseberry, who was born circa 1927 in IN. All I know about this family is the SSDI shows some woman named Louise Roseberry who was born 3/29/1899 likely died 11/30?/1974 in Anderson. Presumably she and her husband were buried there. Can anyone help me with the genealogical details of this family?

Not sure if there is a connection. My William was born in Ohio (probably Licking Co since his brother Robert was born in Licking Co the next year) in 1843. His name was William S. Crow, son of John H. Crow and Sarah Jackman. William's brother John M. Crow b. 1837 in Perry, Ohio was by gg grandfather. Not sure of this connection as there were quite a few Crow's in Ohio but both from Licking Co kind of ties it.

I need help with researching the East family that came to Madison county around 1850 from Virginia. It is my grandmother's side but no one is left to give me any information. From what I've found on here, I think John East (born 1797 in Virginia) was the first East relative I have in the Pipe Creek area. Then his son James A T East (1839-1916) and then my great grandfather Von East (1902-1971). Any information that anyone has on this family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am searching for George A. Spitzmesser, from north Elwood, Indiana. He was born in NY to Andrew & Mary Spitzmesser in 1850's; married to Laura Hetrick in Madison Co, Indiana. They had a son named Guy. Divorced before turn of century & married to Hannah Slob. 1910 census shows he & Hannah had a daughter, Mary. Can not find where & when he died, may have moved to Oregon in early 1900's, but search does not turn up any records. Sorry not more exact on dates, my research is packed away & I am going on memory! :{

Hi, my name is Vicki Spitzmesser, wife of JB (Jonathan) Spitzmesser, formerly of Elwood, In. I do have a family history going on about the Spitzmessers. There was a William that might be the one you seek, but I do not have much info on him & have misplaced my research since moving. However, there was originally Andrew (Andreas), Gustav, and Joseph who migrated from Moos, Baden, Germany in mid-1800 to NY. One remained behind or moved elsewhere. Two, including Andrew, moved to north Elwood where they primarily engaged in farming. My husband is a descendent of Andrew, through the line of Andrew's son, George. Andrew also had a son, William who was older than George. I have not found anything on George beyond a 1910 census where he was married a second time. I will be glad to assist you as I had correspondence from one who was perhaps more closely related to William until her death about 8 yrs ago.

Ruth Alice Stanley Cunningham 1909-1935 is the person I believe may have been adopted by Oscar Lewis Stanley and Josephine Foland Stanley, not my great grandmother Cora. Cora was Oscar's youngest sister. On the 1920 census Ruth is listed as daughter but on the 1930 census she is listed with husband and children as Oscar's adopted daughter. I haven't located family on 1910 census yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way does the historial society have old copies of the Anderson Herald or Bulletin? Or where can they be found? Circa 1935-1940. Thank you for your help.

Oscar's sister Cora 1879-1938 was my great grandmother.She passed about 20 years before I was born. I dont have anything except what records I have found on Ancestry.com. I think Ruth was adopted by Oscar and Josephine Foland Stanley but dont know if she was a blood relative or not. I dont know if the Health Dept of Madison County in Anderson would have any adoption records or not. I have a public tree Stover1 if you want to take a look at it. I dont know if it would be helpful or not.
