Surnames: SPENCE

I am trying to find out if Thomas Spence, who lived in Jefferson Township, Noble County, is related to my husband's family. He died of typhoid fever. His obituary was in the New Era on 17 January 1878.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
