McFadden Cemetery is between Mt. Vernon and New Harmony and very close to the Wabash River and across the river from Maunie, Illinois.

Miss Patrick first married a Mr. MCFADDEN, and later married Jacob BOZEMAN, whose ancestry is contained in the book "Sketches of the BOZEMAN Family" by Rev. Joseph W. BOZEMAN D.D. published in Meridian, Miss. in 1885. I need ancestry on all those mentioned except BOZEMAN. I need that too if it goes back to the old country. Thanks!

Margaret Serena BOZEMAN was born January 1813 in Bowling Green Kentucky and moved to Posey County Indiana with her parents Jacob BOZEMAN and Sarah PATRICK. She married Edmund ROGERS January 16, 1834 in White County, Illinois and bore him four children. She remarried March 6, 1846 in Posey County Indiana to Thomas Roger "Gun" COX and bore him three children. I would like to know when she died, where and where buried. Billy R. Joseph A. Travers was born in KY and moved to Posey County in the early 1830s with his parents. He married Sarah "Sallie" Rogers. She died in 1895. Joseph was listed in the 1900 Posey County Census as living with his son William. I have not found a death record. They are supposed to be buried in Old Beech Cemetery. William died in 1940. Death Certificate states burial at Old Beech. There are no records of the cemetery that reflect they are buried at Old Beech and, of course, there are no tombstones. William was 72 when he died and may never have been married. Any info on Joseph's death would be appreciated. They had several childred. Their son, Henry is my great grandfather. Henry married Nancy Mariah Causey and they are both buried at Old Beech.

Sorry I posted so late but next Tue MAY 7th I am giving a talk on this project and I will be giving to any one who shows up 9,800 probates and guardianships with over 30,000 names. I'm trying to find my husband's great-grandfather in the 1870 census to no avail. The only clue I have for the time period between about 1867 and 1878 is that he was admitted to the Dayton Veterans Home in Ohio and the entrance information indicated he had come there from "Wardville" or "Woodville" Indiana. I have searched many similar names and just discovered Wadesville. He was a German immigrant, lived in Covington KY first. Possibly re-married in 1867, disappeared until the Home. 2nd wife died??? any directories in that time frame? Cemetery records? All help much appreciated.

Golden Rain trees

I know there are a lot of Golden Rain trees in Posey Co. I planted one here in Hopkins Co., Ky. two years ago. It was doing fine until the freezes we all got a couple of weeks ago and it now looks to be dead.

How are those trees in Posey doing? Do you have any suggestions on how I might save my little tree?

I'm looking for information about Christian Carl Neubold or Newbold * 1883, Posey Co., Indiana (F: Christian Karl Neubold, M: Katharine Friederike Pflüger). There is an entry on IGI: Carl Christian Neubold, bap. June 10th, 1883 Mars, Posey Co., Indiana. He had a brother Friedich Eberhard Neubold * 1878, Württemberg. The family came to the USA in 1883.

The obituary below is from my grandfather Louis Ashworth's newspaper clippings. George was Louis' brother. The article appeared in the Mt. Vernon Democrat on December 13, 1948.

Death Ends Long Public Life Career
G. A. Ashworth Funeral Rites To Be Tuesday

George A. Ashworth, 72, retired Mt. Vernon businessman, treasurer of the Mt. Vernon Board of School Trustees, former Posey county treasurer, former Mt. Vernon councilman and a powerful figure in Posey county Democratic politics for many years, died at 11:30 p. m. Saturday at his home at 118 West Ninth street.

He had been in failing health for the last five years and seriously ill of a heart ailment for the last 14 months. Time and time again his remarkable vitality had caused him to rally after his life had been despaired of.

Rites On Tuesday
The body is at Short Funeral Home and will remain there through the funeral service at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon in the Short chapel, Rev. F. T. Johnson, First Methodist minister, will conduct the service. Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery.

Surviving are the wife, nee Mae Hurley, whose marriage to Mr. Ashworth took place 50 years ago last October; two daughters, Mrs. Louise A. Baldwin, a federal employee in Washington, D.C., and Miss Mae H. Ashworth, New York City, assistant editor of Friendship press; a son, Geo. Ashworth, Terre Haute, football coach of Wiley High school there; three grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Lillian Reagin, Mt. Vernon, and a brother, Louis Ashworth, Midlothian, Ill., who will arrive here from Bradenton, Fla., where he is spending the winter.

Born in Mt. Vernon
The deceased was a native of Mt. Vernon, the son of Andrew Jackson Ashworth and Sallie Green Ashworth, representatives of two of this community’s oldest families. The mother died five years ago at the age of 89 years.

Mr. Ashworth’s entire life had been spent in his native city and for 43 years he had resided at the West Ninth street address where he died. As a young man he was an employee of local grocery stores until he established his own grocery store at Mill and Seventh streets.

Later he erected the modern store building at 819 Main street, present location of Sam Noon’s North Side Market, where he continued in the grocery business until his retirement five years ago. In addition to his mercantile business he operated a glove factory for a number of years.

Democratic Leader
Popularity that was founded on the bedrock of integrity and friendliness made his entrance into politics a foregone conclusion and for years he was a Democratic power in Posey county. He served as a very capable county treasurer from 1921 to 1925 and following his term of office guided the destinies of Posey county Democracy in a period of repeated victories as chairman of the Democratic central committee.

He was a former Mt. Vernon city councilman.

Upon the death of his friend and political associate, Attorney William Espenschied, he was elected a Mt. Vernon school trustee to fill Attorney Espenschied’s unexpired term and became a school board member in February, 1935.

11 Year School Trustee
He was elected and re-elected for four terms of three years each to bring his total period of competent service to the school and city of Mt. Vernon to almost 14 years.

During all of that period he was treasurer of the Board of School Trustees, an office he held at the time of his death.

Frank Schnee, 76, of 914 W. Fourth street, a life-long resident of Posey county except for a brief residence in Arkansas and for many years a farmer died at 9:20 a.m. Sunday. He had been ill more than a year.

The body is at the Short Funeral Home and will remain there through the funeral service set for 2 p.m.Wednesday in the Short chapel. Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery. Rev. James N. Colbert, pastor of Mt. Vernon General Baptist Church will be the officiating clergyman.

Mr. Schnee was a native of New Harmony vicinity, a son of W. H. Schnee and Mary Endicott Schnee.

I am researching Graces that moved from Tennessee to Missouri. My great great Grandfather was Nathaniel Grace. He was born Abt 1840 in Tennessee. I can not find anything on him. He was married to Emily Stallions (also seen as Stratton and Stallings) in Morgan County, Missouri. They were married 13 August 1868. Their children were Francis Marion, William, J.W., Isabell, Martha and Charley. Francis married Susan M. Thruston. Her death certificate shows her father being John Stallions. He supposedly married Melissa Holt in Posey County, Indiana.

about a Nathaniel Grace and his family. I would love to find information that will tie my Nathaniel Grace in with them. My family has hit a major brick wall with Grandpa Nathaniel (dad says they called him Grandpa Than). He was married to a Mary Elizabeth Crenshaw 15 Jan 1860 in Benton County, Missouri. He was found living with an older brother or cousin, William (17) when he was 11 and a 12 year old Sarah (married Francis Marion Crenshaw). The family was headed by a Squire Glen Grace. This was in the 1850 District 5, Barry, Missouri census. 1870 census he is in Buffalo Township, Morgan County, Missouri with wife Emily. I have not been able to find any information on his parents. Nathaniel was not listed in 1880 Buffalo Township, Morgan County, Missouri Census with his children and wife, Emily.

Any information connected to him would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for your message about the WHIPPLW family in Posey Co., IN. I find a note that John R. KNOWLES married Harriet WHIPPLE on 19 Feb. 1860 in Posey Co., IN. This is likely a part of the Whipple/Knowles family you are working on and of the WHIPPLE family from whom my husband descends. But you mentioned a connection with the state of Michigan and I know nothing of such a connection. My data shows the WHIPPLE family migrated to Posey Co., IN from Dearborn Co., IN and that the older members of the family were born in NY. I will appreciate any input from anyone on this family.

Posey Co and German Immigrants from Hessen-Darmstadt

In researching the Dietz side of my family, I have looked through several microfilms of census records. What I have noticed is a significant amount of people orginating from Hessen-Darmstadt. I have been told that many fokes already had their land bought before they came over. My ancestors census records have Hessen-Darmstadt as place of origin. I have since learned that probably does on mean the town of Darmstadt, but the region (including many villages). So because I cannot find the specific village of origin, I was wondering if there where connections between specific villages within Hessen-Darmstadt(Germany) and immigration to Posey Co. I also know that many times families from a specific region came over together on the same ship. I have my ancestors ship list. Do you think it would be worth posting the infomation in to see if anyone can has a connection with an individual? And, is there any connection with the Hessen-Darmstadt immigrants and the settlement of Darmstadt, IN? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Shane

Am seeking information about George Seabrook Green and Ella Kahn Green. George Green was born c1875 and was Deputy Auditor at the court house. He married Ella Kahn in 1900; she was born July 1871. I believe they lived in Mt. Vernon. I am looking for any information, but particularly about their deaths and place of burial - probably in Mt. Vernon. The last record I have for them is the 1930 census.

Richard Harris had land in Posey Co., Indiana in 1835. He and his wife, Hannah Nuzum Harris, were married in Virginia. Richard may have been born 1782 in Maryland. Hannah was born 1789 in Pennsylvania. This family also lived in Door Village,LaPorte, Indiana before moving to Muscatine Co., Iowa in abt 1840. I would be happy to exchange information with anyone that has record of this couple or their children.

Louis Feulling or Fuelling from Mt. Vernon

My grandfather was born in Mt Vernon in 1882 to Andrew Jackson Ashworth and Sarah Green Ashworth. His full name is Louis Feulling Ashworth. I do not know how he got his middle name as I have not discovered a family connection to Feulling or Fuelling. I found a Louis Feulling in the 1910, 1920, and 1930 Mt Vernon Posey County Census records born c. 1858, but I cannot find him earlier. I think that this Louis Feulling is somehow connected to my grandfather's Ashworths or Greens.

If anyone knows anything about Louis Feulling from Mt Vernon, I would love to hear from you.

Our Jesse Hayes was born 10-17-1817 in Blairsville, Indiana, Posey County. He married Mahala Cross 4-2-1837. She was born 5-26-1819 in Posey County, Indiana. Mahala died 1852/1856 in Posey County. Ezekiel was married twice. 1) Jane McClure and 2)Mary Ann McClary. He had 12 children. Martha Platt was born in Tennessee about 1820. She moved to Posey Co. and married 1. Shadrach Harrison, 6 Oct. 1842, 2. John Lawson, 21 Mar. 1850 (my gg-grandfather), and 3. James Blount, July 5, 1855. These three we are sure of, but she may have also been married to 4. Philo A. Hutcheson, 6 Nov. 1879. The problem is there appears to have been two Martha Platts in Posey Co. at that time and we are not sure if the same person married all four of these husbands. Also we do not know under what name she was buried or where. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Looking for any information for Mary, one of my great-grandmothers. She died 8/27/1930 in Dunkirk, IN and is buried in Saratoga Cemetery, Randolph Co., IN. She was the daughter of George Rheinhart, b: 6/13/1830 in Germany and Louisa Gaeger Rheinhart, b: 2/2/1833 in Germany.

She married Lewis Hawthorne 11/24/1885.

Their children were Ruby, Pearl, Emerald and Diamond. Diamond was my grandmother.

Does anyone have any info or knowledge of the old Shupert school on the Griffen/New Harmony road in Posey. I am interested in anything about the Shuperts that lived in or around Robb twp. in 1880's. Frederick and Elizabeth Shuppert were my GGgrandparents. I know that Elizabeth died there in 1882 (buried?)and that several of their children married there. I don't know what happened to Frederick or the origin of the school.

Minnie was the youngest in a large family. Older siblings included James (b: 1869; d: 1870), Harry E.(1871), Henry (1872), Bertha (1874), Millard (1875), Jessie (b:1880; d: 1880); George (1881), Carl (b: 1882; d: 1882), Paul (b: 1885; d: 1912), Ernest (Ernie) (1887).

I am looking for information on Edward Monroe b: 1815 in NY and he and/or his children appear on census records in Posey County Indiana from the middle to the late 1800's. I am tracking his son Ira Harrison Monroe who was born, married and had his children there in Black. Some time in the early 1900's he moved to Dallas, TX. His son, Ira Harrison Monroe, Jr. is my son's great-grandfather.

First she married Silas M Cox, he was born July 4 1812 in Indiana and died Aug 26, 1864 in Posey Co, IN. I would like to know where he is buried as well.

In 1880 Posey Co, IN census an aged Sarah Craig (I presume her mother) is 78 and living with dau Elizabeth and William Hume. I believe this Sarah is Sarah/Sallie Early who m John H Craig.I believe JOhn H Craig to be a brother of my Thomas S Craig born 1806 PA and married Ellen Trager in Baton Rouge, LA. Location of Family Cemetery of John Walker of the Revolutionary War

I am seeking the location of the cemetery where John Walker (1754-1844) is buried. He fought in the Revolutionary War. My understanding is that there is a statue of him in the town square in Mt. Vernon Indiana.

The only information that I have found is that he is buried in the family cemetery which is located near Stewartsville.

Would anybody have a more precise location and directions to get to this cemetery? I am planning a visit to the community and would like to see where a number of my relatives have been buried.

Harrod McDonald is listed in Squire Samuel McDonald's Bible in Posey County, Indiana, records as his father. His mother is referred to only as "Mother." Harrod's birth date is given as 28 Aug 1768 and death date as 2 Apr 1845. "Mother"'s birth date is given as 3 Jan 1776 and death date as 7 Aug 1861. Am looking for information about parentage, place of birth or death, or marriage of these two people, including their full names. Any clues you can provide will be very much appreciated. They may have come from Ohio, but I am not certain about that. Squire Samuel McDonald's census record indicates he was born in Ohio.

I am seeking info on this family. John Hill Anderson was married to Cassander or Cassandra, surname unknown, and they had at least one child, William O. Anderson born about 1846. John died in Posey Co. on Mar. 10 1852. Cass remarried to Joseph Allen and had daughter Josephine Belle in 1856 and possibly a younger child. Joseph died in Feb. 1858 while traveling between Mt. Vernon and Evansville in a drunken state. I am hoping to find these men in a cemetery or find the marriage records with Cass. Thanks for any assistance.

Looking for information about William York(born 1791 in NC) and Sarah "Sallie" McHon (born in about 1803 in KY). They were in Posey Co IN in 1820 when the first of their chldren were born and was last last in Posey Co. on the 1850 census before moving to White Co. IL. On the 1850 Posey Co IN census there was list Elizabeth (York) McDaniel at the age of 69 and blind. She was born in NC in about 1781 and married David McDaniel 28 Jan 1803 in Randolph Co. NC. I wonder if Elizabeth and David moved to Posey Co. IN also. Any information would be helpful.

I am researching Simon Williams who moved from Warren Co., KY to Posey Co., IN, about 1814. I reviewed tax recods in Warren Co., KY, for 1805 and found Simon Williams and Rowland Williams as adjacent names recorded the same day, both residing on the B(illegible) Creek water course. I have a feeling that these two men are related, but I don't know how.
