My great-grandparents appear in the Pulaski County Marriage Records Index as Charles W. GOLO and Lulie L. AMBLER. The date given in the index is 24 DEC 1900.
However, they also seem to appear on the 1900 Warren County, IN Federal Census (which was taken JUN 12th of that year) as "Charley GROLS?" and "Lillie", ages 25 and 20 respectively, married 0 years.
I am trying to determine the parentage of Lela/Lulelia/Lelia AMBLER. I would also like to find out if they were married at the time the census was taken. Were they married later or was the marriage simply recorded later? Why did they marry in Pulaski County? I think it is possible that her parents lived there as there were AMBLERs that settled in Star City.
I am having a very difficult time researching my great-grandfather because of the inconsistancy of the spelling of the surname. Charles was born in IN but both of his parents were born in Canada. My mom thinks his father's name was John. They seem to have spelled the surname phonetically (GROLO) when they first moved to IN. My grandfather reverted to the original spelling (GROLEAU) when he married in 1940. I am currently limited to online research so I would greatly appreciate any lookups on this surname.
