Classification: Query
Surnames: SMITH, GREGG, PARKER, McCARTY, McKINNEY
Hello: I usually obtain my SMITH ancestry from Johnson or Clinton Co - where my GGG, GG and Great Grand Parents (Joseph, Robert, William T. lived from 1828 to 1873. However, many of the Smith family - originally from Wythe and Grayson Co. Virginia - did move into Marion, Franklin, Greene and other counties after 1851. I am especially looking for Joseph Allen Smith (1848 IND to 1931 IND) who may have lived in your county after 1851. He is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Clinton Co (Memorial # 10458484) and was Wed twice - 1st to Margaret Jennette Gregg (1 son Frank) and 2nd to Laura Ellen Parker (McCarty) 0 kids. Both of the wives probably lived in Ripley in the 1860 to 1890 range, BUT both are also Buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Joseph Allen Smith (III) is a son of my GG grand father Robert Smith (1808 VA - 1873 IND) and his 1st wife Eleanor McKinney from 1834 to 1851 & are buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Johnson Co. IND. Anything you can find on Joseph Allen, either of two wives (Margaret or Laura) would be appreciated. I have had great success from Ms. Linda Talley at the Johnson Co. IND Museum in Franklin - perhaps you know her also.
