Joseph Rachuba was my great-great grandfather, through his son Ignatius, and grandson Walter. I've only started my own family history research, but the unverified story I remembered hearing several years ago was that he found work in Chicago (no idea why the rest of the family didn't come along - our branch remains in Pittsburgh) and was killed in a bar fight. He was apparently beaten to death with a brick. Again, I can't verify any of that. What interests me in your post, Lynn, is finding record of him in St. Joseph County, Indiana. My wife and I met and were married at the University of Notre Dame, which is of course in St. Joseph County!
