The reason I asked is that last week I checked through the newspaper obits for the Poland death dates you gave, and found nothing. The newspapers then didn't have all the obituaries together like now; they were scattered through the paper, and there weren't very many of them. I did find one thing in the Tippecanoe County Death Records 1882-1920. I found Peter Poland's name, but no mention of Rhuanna. However, three lines below Peter's name was listed a "Ahuanno Pollard," who died Sept. 1, 1892 at the age of 92. Could this be Peter's wife? I know the month and day of death are different from what you have. Just thought I'd throw this in.

Hi there,
sending a note that I finished adding names and stones to the Old Oxford Cemetery. It is way out on the East County Line Road in Perry township.
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&GRid=10...;

There are a lot of black tombstones that are hard to read. Let me know if there are additions or corrections. Many early dates too.

We are white covered and 28 degrees here in Lafayette.

Stay warm,
L.A.
I’m not related to any member of this family.

1940 is the last available census at this time.

Facts you should know about the early census records -
All census records [1790 – 1840] prior to the 1850 census ONLY listed the head of household; whether male or female.

NO specific age was stated for any family member
NO place of birth was stated – city, state, or country
NO city, town, or village is stated – only the county; however some census takers listed the township
NO street address was stated
NO marital status was stated – single, married, widowed, or divorced
NO family relationship was stated – brother, sister, cousin, son, daughter, wife, inlaw, etc…
NO occupation was stated
NO parental birthplaces are stated
NO race was stated [but assume “white”]

1850, 1860 & 1870 census records do not show family relationships, marital status or parental birthplaces.

Step children are not enumerated as “step” children
Adopted children are not enumerated as “adopted”
Grand children are not enumerated as “grand children”
Orphaned children were not enumerated as "orphan"

1850 is the 1st census that shows all family members

1880 is the 1st census that shows parental birthplaces and family relationships +++

1860 -
Name: Zadch Goodwin
Age in 1860: 59
Birth Year: abt 1801
Birthplace: Ohio
Home in 1860: Lauramie, Tippecanoe, Indiana
Gender: Male
Post Office: Stockwell

Zadch Goodwin 59, OH - day laborer
Marthe Goodwin 36, OH [1824]
Jasfer Goodwin 9, KY [aka = Jasper]
Hustin Goodwin 3, IND
Frances Goodwin 2, IND - [aka = Frank]

Zadch Goodwin does not appear in any other census.

death record -
Name: Huston Goodwin
Date: 18 Jul 1902
Location: Perry Township
Age: 47 Yr
Gender: Male
Race: White
Source Location: City Health Office Frankfort
Source notes: The source of this record is the book H-14 on page 61 within the series produced by the Indiana Works Progress Administration.

1900 -
Name: Huston Goodwin
Age: 44
Birth Date: Oct 1855
Birthplace: Indiana
Home in 1900: Perry, Clinton, Indiana
Race: White
Gender: Male
Relation to Head of House: Head
Marital Status: Married
Spouse's Name: Maggie Goodwin
Marriage Year: 1884
Years Married: 16
Father's Birthplace: Indiana
Mother's Birthplace: Indiana
Occupation:
He was buried in Tippecanoe Co. Doing some research for a friend. There's an interesting graveside photograph attributed to him and we are attempting to find out if it's legitimate.

According to the 1900 census, Elizabeth Stitz came to America in 1859. She was a widow by 1900, so it does not give her husband's year of immigration.
If you go to findagrave.com, and enter "Stitz" in the surname box, and Indiana, Tippecanoe county, you will find several of the family buried in at least two different cemeteries. Some have pictures. One, that of Louis Stitz, has a fairly detailed obituary which lists his children as well as others in the family. It says their home was on Lingle Ave. It may still be there. Hope this helps.

I am looking for help tracking down ancestors and descendants of Albert Adolf STITZ (b 3/13/1876, Indiana), raised in the rural Tippecanoe County, Indiana area. I believe his parents were Adolph Rudolf (?) and Elizabeth (maiden?) STITZ, both of whom emigrated from Germany. At this time I do not know what year they made their voyage to the United States, before eventually settling in Indiana.

Adolf and Elizabeth had six sons between 1860-1876, Fredrick, Rudolf, William, Fedelof, Lewis, and Albert Adolf.

Albert Adolf STITZ married Theresa E LORENZEN (b ~1878, Illinois) on 11 June, 1899 in Cook County, Illinois. The couple lived in Iowa and Illinois before eventually settling in the Everett area of Snohomish County, Washington. They had at least two daughters, Edna E (~1902, Iowa), and Fern Viola (6/2/1906, Illinois), and a son Everett Lorenzen (3/14/1910, WA).

Fern Viola STITZ married Paul Franklin BERRY (10/17/1904, Missouri), year unknown. The couple lived in Everett, WA and raised three children, Alice (b 12/16/1926), Elizabeth “Betty” (b 8/6/1928), and Charles Everett (b 5/29/1930).

Phebe (Kent) Burgett is related to John and Rachel Kent (though the exact relationship is unknown). John Kent lived at Cabin Run, Patterson Creek, Hampshire Co., Virginia and lived many years next to David LONG. Frederick and Phebe (Kent) Burgett did live near John Kent, too, so they were all neighbors. Frederick and Phebe (Kent) Burgett dropped off the Hampshire Co., Virginia personal property tax list in about 1800 and show up at Ross Co., Ohio by October 1803.

I have thought in a passing theory that perhaps William Long descended from David Long....

I saw your July posting on Burget/Long. Am interested in your comment # 10. Do you have any additional information on William Long, married Phoebe Burget in Xenia,Ohio 1816. Any info on him prior to that time would be helpful. He was born 1795 in VA, but I can't seem to locate him there. Was Phoebe in KY, prior to their move to Ohio in 1806?..

Wm and Phoebe moved to Tippecanoe in 1836. Had about 9 children between 1816 and 1836...Daniel Long was eldest b. in 1817. They lived in Union Twp, Union Co, Ohio, although I think they moved around some while in Ohio..

Good afternoon,
I'm finishing the two Colburn cemeteries today.
I will post more photographs later.

The transcriptions always have errors. So if anyone is looking for a place to help. Colburn is a small little
town up in Washington township. One side is
the EUB Church/ United Brethern Cemetery. (Now the
Colburn Methodist Church)
The west side is the Colburn Luthern Cemetery.

Another note, I think some of the burial list could be in
the wrong place. LOL. sorry, its part of it. Rememer to note which side your photoraphing on. It's easy to forget.

Send corrections please. It will make it good for everyone.
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~intcpcrg/TippecanoeCountyI...

L.A.
Thanks, John and Francis.

I think I may have heard before that there were conventions for naming according to parents' and grandparents' names, but I don't remember hearing that I should be looking for "middle" names. That could help a lot with my puzzle, since presumably the non-German obituary writers might put the first "saint's" name rather than the name we would recognize. I do have another family line in which everyone is named Johann -- that would fit with this naming convention.

So, now I need to figure out if there is a Saint Jacob or a Saint Sarah. I've never heard of them...

I'm bookmarking the link -- thanks!

Regards,

Deb
