I have run into a wall in my research on my grandfather, Walter Clark.
Via phone directories, the C&EI historical society and the Browning Genealogy site I have been able to confirm his age, when he died and the fact that he was a brakeman for C&EI in the 40s and 50s. I have also been able to find record of his marriage to Eva Mae Kidwell in 1912.
What I can't seem to find is:
A record of his death in the SSDI
Any census records that list him and Mae and their "Children" as listed on the obituary cards for Walter and Mae.
Notice that his son is listed as "Robert Jr" - does this indicate that maybe Walter was his middle name and Robert was actually his first name? Or maybe a step-family?
What also makes it confusing is that there are several "Walters" and "Roberts" in the Siddall family whom they were apparently connected to via their daughter, Shirley who married Robert Siddall.
On the obituary card for Walter, Velma Martin is listed as a Daughter, but on Mae's she is listed as a Niece? I was able to find Violet Siddalls obit card (She was originally Violet Kidweel, Eva Mae's sister) so she apparently married a Siddall, and on her obit card Velma is listed as daughter, and her husband was Robert Siddall. So did cousins get married somewhere in here? Maybe Walter and Mae didnt actually have kids, they were just their nieces and nephews? I am so confused. :(
*sigh*
I have attached the obit cards to this post, and my profile is public if you care to see the directory listings, info from C&EI or newspaper obit for Walter. I also have a draft reg and some census records saved, but I'm not sure those belong to him because I can't find anything concrete.
Am I missing some obvious possibility here? If anyone has any suggestions or ideas i would love to hear them. Also if your research interests happen to involve The Siddalls, Kidwells, or Clarks of Evansville, Indiana I would love to compare notes!
Thanks in advance!
