Joseph Alfred BROWN was born in White County, Indiana near Headlee on February 8, 1892. He was the son of Parmer Sanford BROWN and Madora PAGE [see Onondaga Co, NY or Lawrence Co, Arkansas for more]. Sanford and Madora moved from White County in the fall of 1894. Sanford returned to sell the farm, took sick and died there on September 21, 1895 and is buried in Mt. Pleasant (Ploss) Cemetery southeast of Headlee, Indiana. Madora is buried in Kelley Cemetery between Imboden and Black Rock, Lawrence Co., Arkansas.

Joe was a farmer and died July 24, 1965 at Chaffee, Missouri and was buried at Union Park Cemetery, Chaffee, Missouri. He married Nettie Evia Oldham (daughter of Henry Clay Oldham and Sarah Mahala Ketner) on April 11, 1909 at Eaton, Lawrence County, Arkansas. Nettie was born February 14, 1893 at Lynn, Lawrence County, Arkansas; died December 22, 1988 at Walnut Ridge, Lawrence County, Arkansas and is buried at Old Lebanon Cemetery, Eaton, Arkansas.

Joe and Nettie had the following children: Virgie (married; Fred Foster, William Parr, and Grover Poteet), Virgil Alfred (married Mary “Jane” Hibbard), Ray Edgar (married Mrytle Frisbee), Ralph Edward (married Mattie Gray), Stella Margaret (married Claude Kissee), and Molly Nadine Brown (married Harold Ingram).

Joe also married Daisy Thompson Calton on July 17, 1935 at Walnut Ridge, Lawrence County, Arkansas. They lived at Marshall and Chaffee, Missouri and had the following children: David, Tom, Douglas, Paul, James, Mrs Murial Schaefer.
