Rites Held For Mrs. Van Gorder
Jennie Matilda Roffman, daughter of John and Minnie Roffman, was born November 4, 1879 at Postville, and passed away April 10, at the Waukon Memorial Hospital at the age of 80 years, five months and six days. She was born and reared in this community and spent her entire life here.
On March 18, 1902 she was united in marriage to Henry Van Gorder by the late Rev. Van Nice. To this union was born three children, all of whom survive: Verla, Mrs. Earl Russell, of La Motte, Iowa; Elmer of Oelwein, Iowa; and Ray at home; also nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Her parents, two brothers, and three sisters preceded her in death. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. John Eckert of Waukon, and one brother, William Roffman, of Decorah. She also leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Henry Van Gorder, who because of failing health is confined to his home most of the time.
Funeral services were from the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville, at 2:00 Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. Curtis H. Webster of the Forest Mills Ev. U.B. Church officiating. Burial was made in the Minert Cemetery in Post township.
