I am trying to locate any info on my Chickasaw County ancestors.
Thomas MANGAN was one of the first pioneer settlers to the county. He was born in Ireland (Co. Roscommon)in 1830. He married Mary KANE, also from Ireland, in NY, before they came to Iowa in 1850. This is where things get a bit tricky. Thomas was married two if not 3 times. His obit. in the Lawler paper (1898) said he was survived by a wife and 9 kids!!
Here are the ones we knew about:
John MANGAN m Ella MURRAY and moved to Chicago.
Elizabeth MANGAN married a GARLINGER, and lived in Neb.
Margaret MANGAN married John DONAVAN.
My g. gramp. was James Henry MANGAN, b. 5-30-1870 - d. 6-5-1945.
James married Jenny BALLAK, from Jherico, and they had a farm there.
Any info or ideas on how to fine more info, would be greatly appreciated. Thomas married Mary KANE in New Jersey, apparently after the boat from IRL landed. Don't know how or where to find naturalization info, etc.
Any and or all help, clues, hints etc, will be greatly appreciated.
My mom Mary nee MANGAN is dying of cancer and I don't know when I would be able to get back there to check. I am most disappointed: I was outrageously charged and then sent blank documentation from the Vital Stats. group - isn't there a law against that sort of thing? Unfortunately, it was done w/my credit card, but they need to know they have been reported.
