Can anyone tell me the name of the newspaper that covers the town of Monona? Are there back newspapers available? I have a couple found in the Monona Cemetery listings with year of death only. Can someone advise the best way to get the death dates? I do not know the funeral home, can't find a listing for the cemetery office or who has burial records?
PLEASE need some advise on researching in your county. As I understand the rules in Iowa, I can't purchase a cousin's death certificate for genealogy purposes. Willing to hire someone to do the job for me.
Dianna

William Jardine Clayton

I am looking for any available information on an Australian who migrated to Napa, California and later became a veteran during the American Civil War. His name was William Jardine Clayton who was born on December 27, 1835 in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, the son of George Thomas and Elizabeth Eleanor Clayton. In 1850 George Thomas, Elizabeth, William and the rest of the family migrated again, when he was fifteen years of age, to the United States where he became a naturalized American citizen.

California census records reveal that in 1860 William was living with his mother and sister at Napa County, California and when the American Civil War erupted, William enlisted in the Napa Rangers, California Militia and married during the war years. After the war William worked as a farmer and by 1880 was divorced. William Jardine Clayton died in 1932 at ninety-seven years of age in the city of Lakeport, in Lake County, California and was subsequently laid to rest in the Hartley Cemetery in Lakeport, California.

I want to acquire information relating to him, his marriage, his family so he can be added to the Veterans Memorial website, www.acwv.info relating to veterans from an/or buried in Australia.

Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

James Gray
www.acwv.info
Brisbane, Au.

You are most welcome! However I do not think "Oscoin" is correct - this is not an English name nor, can I find anything remotely like this in the Births Index for England - I don't know how exact your reseach is but I would suggest you obtain a copy of that marriage to double check the spelling and then hopefully, a birth can be found.

Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services.
KELLER / KOHLER descendants
Gutenberg, Iowa, was a place where my husband's great-grandparents had their picture taken in the late 1800s.

So, although they had both been born in Germanic Europe, we know that they were in Clayton County, Iowa sometime after their 1868 marriage (in Wolcottsville, Niagara County, New York).

Their final move was, however, to Macon County, Missouri.

Since we have not, as of this date, been able to identify any siblings for the great-grandfather, Christian Friedrich Wilhelm KOHLER/COLAR/KOEHLER (1837-1906), we are hoping that the KELLER family, living in Clayton County in 1860, 1870, and 1880, might lead us to sibling/cousin information.

The given names for these KELLERs are shown as:
L ______ (hard to read) - head
Theresa - wife (& later head)
Martin
Christian
Catherine
John
William
Clemens
Ludwig

If you have information about this family and are willing to 'visit' about them, please contact me.

Leslie (Bridges) Kohler
Aug67@cox.net

Hello there,
My information I have is of my husband family. I have no information for a George Eckheart before 1848, either. There are different George's and to designate the difference, there is George from NY in 1848. Then there is a George II and a G.D., and I'm not sure what the G stands for. Anyway, these Eckhearts from Clayton County and Fayette County, Iowa are of one family. There are some Eckhearts from down around Muscatine, Ia and I have no idea who they are even tho the last name is spelled 'heart'. Let me know if you are interested in this information. George II was married to Catherine Hidinger.

My friend is the daughter of Bertha Alline Dunn (Nellie's daughter) and Raymond Faye Reed. I am stuck with the Bethards.

Do you have any more info on the other Bethard daughters? Also, is James Bethard's father Alexander and his father Ebenezer? That is where I am stuck.

What ever you can contribute will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My husband is a descendant of Carrie Hilmoe Barlow and William...although the family tree reads Ellis Barlow incorrectly. I believe Ellis to be William's nephew. I would love to have proof that William is the correct husband. Broderbund genealogy software seems to have it incorrect as well. There is enough proof that Ellis married Sarah Gorst.

If you think it's appropriate and doesn't violate the website's rules, I'd be happy to communicate by direct e-mail, phone or fax. Let me know your thoughts.

My information indicates Ebinezer Bethard was born in 1767 in Maryland and moved a few times before settling in Union County. He married Nancy Griffith (aka Gripeth) who was reportedly a direct descendant of the last King of Wales. She was born about 1780 and died in Delaware County, Ohio 12/08/1844.

I think they had at least four children, apparently late in their lives. Alexander was born in 1814, then Thomas, then William born 05/01/1815 and then Jonathan (aka John). There may have been a daughter, Elizabeth born 1821, died 09/1860. There may also have been a daughter, Anne.

Ebenezer died 0318/1841 (elsewhere 03/08/1841). Of the four boys, Thomas moved to Illinos and Jonathan died, while Alexander and William stayed in Ohio and lived on adjacent farms. William died 05/02/89, apparently on his farm. I've walked along Alexander's farm and it looks like the barn foundation, and possibly the entire barn, is the original.

Alexander married Diana Clark on 10/26/1833. Their children were Jonathan born 08/19/1835, James born 10/11/1837, Nancy Emiline born 02/01/1840 (or 1939), Thomas Henry born 01/09/1842 (1843)and Elizabeth "Lib" Ellen born 12/13/1847 (or 1949). I don't know much about Thomas, know quite a bit about Jonathan and James, and know a bit less about Nancy and Lib.

I've visited the Mill Creek (Baptist) Cemetery which has four Bethard stones. One is for Diana, Alexander's wife, who died 10/09/1856. Another is for Ebenezer's wife Nancy who died 12/08/1844. Another is for Ebenezer who died 03/18/1841. The fourth is small and illegible. There are a lot of other Bethard stones there and in other cemeteries, but I haven't checked the relationships.

You have Charity Ellen Bethard. I have Nellie Charity Bethard, but I don't recall now where I got that information since it was 15-20 years ago.

James Bethard married Caroline Rice. Their first child died in infancy, possibly at birth. I have no name or date. Nellie Charity Bethard was born on her mother's birthday 06/09/1862. She was followed by Sarah Gertrude born 03/08/1969, Bessie Belle (date unknown) and Edith Maud on 08/20/79.

My information indicates Ella married Will A. Dunn 10/07/1880 with their children being William Earle Dunn who married Mary Van Aukin (I show they they had two children and one of them had three children) and Bertha A. Dunn who maried Raymond Faye Reed in Delta (I show they had three children - Holland, Harriette and Ruth - with assorted children and grandchildren under them). So, are you doing this for Harriette or Ruth? Or is there another I'm not aware of?

I'm sure you have more of the recent information than I do and it's more than I need to know, but if you think anything I've said above is wrong, let me know.

I am a descendant of Reuben's sister, Mary Ann. I would be happy to share my line if your interested.
For Chesta I have 18 Dec 1849 in Sweden as her birthplace. Date of death was 1937 in East Providence, Providence Co., RI. I have nothing other than the last name for her spouse. On 1930 Census, it shows Chesta as being widowed, so ohe died before 1930. He was not listed in the household on any previous censuses. They had three children, Matilda Julia born 1882, Alice A. born 1887 and Philip D born 1886.

This one is interesting! I have the others you sent, and agree that although the name is not 'Chesta' the census takers just used what they heard. I didn't think the one where Jessie was the servant was her, but I noticed that one, and for some reason put it on a back burner. I think it was because in 1930, she was living with one of her grandchildren and his wife. But if this one in 1920 is her, then her spouse died prior to 1920. There was a Ckiersti Ohlson in Hartford, Conn. that I thought might have been her, but I think the age was wrong. I can't find that one right now. Growing up we always thought that the spouse's name started with the letter O.

Since their first child was born in 1882, this could possibly be her and Arthur her husband. I am going to have to follow this lead and see where it takes me. Thanks so much!

Hi. I would like to know about a John Fischer or Fisher who was in Wisconsin in the late 1800's. He married a full blood Ojibwa (Chippewa). I believe they lived in Marathon county and maybe further north on the Lac Du Flambeau res. We need to know his wife's name. All she is called as far as anything we can find is Mrs. John Fischer. Sometimes spelled either way. We'd like to know when they got married. It could have been in Unity or Mosinee. I'm hoping you know of this man, it's very important to our family to find out about his wife. There were 2 daughters one full blood, and John's. Both girls refused to learn or speak English. John's daughter was either a redhead or blond with blue eyes. The girls must have been brought up on the res or they would have had to speak English. Thank you very very much in advance in case you can help. Have a great day.

Lily Sosseur
