Ralph Roger Waderich was born near Ute, Iowa, the second oldest child of Walter and Freda (Thies) Waderich. He attended Lutheran and public schools in Ute. At the age of seventeen, he and his family moved to the Birkhofer farm west of Dow City, which they purchased from George Brown. Ralph graduated with the class of 1953 from Dow City High School.
Ralph's wife, Donna Mae (Malone) Waderich, the oldest daughter of Lewis and Viola (Keiner) Malone, was born north of Dow City on the family farm, now occupied by her brother Dutch Malone and his wife, Shirley. Donna attended country school at Paradise No. 4 until high school and graduated from Dow City High School in 1956.
In November 1956, Ralph and Donna were united in marriage by Rev. Roger Raebel at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City. They have been blessed with four children, now grown with families of their own: Renita and her husband, Rolly Laubscher, and their three children, Ross, Randy, and Rheanne; Roger and his wife, Marsha (Beam), and their children, David, Jill, Jennifer, and Jessica; Dennis and his wife, DaNette (Adams), and their sons, Dustin and David; and Joan and her husband, Randy Workman, and their children, Christopher, Abby, and Brock. They all reside in the Dow City community except the Workmans, who live in Omaha, Nebraska. Ralph and Donna are members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
