Calvin Wilber Winey, son of Flora Montgomery Winey and Carl W. Winey, was
born May 4, 1895, near Deloit Iowa. He grew to manhood and was married to
Irene Welch, a former teacher in Denison. To this union was born two sons,
Calvin McCoy Winey Jr., and William Carl Winey.
He had lived his entire life in the same community near Deloit, Iowa. He
and his son William were in partnership operating their land. His
grand-daughter Carmen Rae will be the fifth generation to have lived on the
same land and the family farm is joined by brothers and cousins.
Mr. Winey died March 2 (1962) at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in
Denison after a short illness.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, one sister Aletha and one brother
Raleigh. He is survived by his wife Irene, two sons, Calvin Jr. of
Anchorage, Alaska, and William of Deloit; two sisters, Abbie, Mrs. Clarence
Hutchinson and Rebecca, Mrs. Maurice Holihan, both of Deloit; three
brothers, Louis Arthur, Merrill, and Carlyle Winey, and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held March 23 at Denison Baptist Church at 2 P.M.
Rev M.C Caldwell officiated. Maxwell Funeral Home in charge
Pallbearers were; Eugene Fink, Earl Riggleman, David Ballantine, Wilber
Lapel, and Fred Wescott. Interment in the Oakland Cemetery, Denison, IA.
