I have an ancestor who was born in Ireland around 1815 named John Flannagan. He and his wife, Mary Kelly Flannagan, landed in New York on January 12, 1861 per his intention to become a citizen of the U.S.A. dated Feb. 12, 1861. His
declaration was filed to be a citizen in April 1864. I would love to find out where they came from in Ireland. He stated County Roscommon but I do not know the name of a town. They resided in the rural area of Delaware County, Iowa and I believe lived in Hazel Green Township. He died on July 10, 1880. Mary Kelly Flannagan his wife died on November 15, 1907. They are both buried in the Catholic
Cemetery in Castle Grove, Iowa which is located on the Monticello - Coggon Iowa road. I have attempted to find out if there was an obituary in the Manchester paper. No one can supply me with this information. I have not been able to
locate the whereabouts of the old issues of the paper. It is my understanding that the Federal Government has hired individuals to microfilm all old newspapers but no one in Iowa that I have contacted can supply me with any information. The church near the cemetery had a fire in 1920 and all records were destroyed. If you can direct me to any source that could fill me in with any information regarding this family I would be very happy. They supposedly had a son Michael Joseph Flannagan who was born in 1847 in Ireland and I know nothing else regarding this son. Their son, Patrick
Henry was born in 1852 in Ireland came to Iowa and married on April 15, 1877 a Margaret Britt at the Catholic Church in Delhi, Delaware County, Iowa. This couple is buried in Ryan, Iowa and it is my understanding that this church was destroyed by a wind storm several years ago.
