In reference to Mary Gertrude Cosgrove, I am related to her first husband, Andrew B. Cosgrove. Andrew B. Cosgrove is a brother to my grandfather, William S. Cosgrove of Kossuth County, Iowa. According to Cedar County Marriage records in Vol. 1, page 304, Andrew B. Cosgrove and Mary G. Cosgrove (sometimes "Cosgriff) were married in Clarence, IA on May 14, 1895. Her father's name was John. Their first two children were born in Wesley township, Kossuth County, IA (near where Andrew grew up): Stella Cosgrove on December 19, 1897 and Guilhelm (William) Henrie Cosgrove on May 9, 1999 (according to birth records of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wesley, Iowa). Sometime after the birth of William, Andrew and Mary moved to Coleraine, MN where their son, Russell Andrew, was born in 1902. Russell died at age 5 months in January, 1903 and Willam died in 1923 (I think). Andrew B. Cosgrove died on Aug. 23, 1903 in Minnesota and was buried in the St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery, Wesley, Iowa. Mary G. Cosgrove later married Michael Whalen. Stella Cosgrove married William Steele. In 1979 when I started this Cosgrove research, I contacted a John Whalen in Hibbing, MN. and Elinor Grady in Duluth, MN. We shared what information we had at that time. I would think that Mary G. Cosgrove was born near Clarence, Iowa. It was Andrew B. Cosgrove who lived near Algona, Kossuth County, Iowa. I have no idea how they met. Andrew B. Cosgrove was born in 1867 in a small town near Ottawa, Canada and his parents, Andrew and Anne (O'Neil) Cosgrove came to Kossuth County, Iowa in 1869 to homestead in Wesley township.
