Connery McNamara

I have found an obscure diocese record in Lindsay, Ontario which shows Hanora Connery marrying John Pyne in 1856. Her parents were Michael Connery and Ellen Roche. His were James Pyne (deceased) and Catherine Miller. Catherine remained in Lindsay until her death. John and "Nora" moved to NY (probably illegally). It appears that more of the Pyne families moved to Michigan (spouse Hoey). The Connery children Michael, James, Charles, and Catherine (Kate)were born in Ireland. There are three children Richard, Margaret Ann, and Hannah Mary who are born in Canada. Margaret never admitted to being born in Canada because we believe illegal status, but says NY. Margaret Ann, Michael, and Mary Ellen Connery all relocate to Madison County Iowa. She married Michael McNamara born Ireland.
Alfred Barnett Family

In January 1991 I was endeavoring to assist Rita H. Townsend in the compiling of her 2 volume supplement to her work:"Hutchins-Hutchens: Descendants of Strangeman Hutchins".

At that time, Roxie Guzman (now deceased) forwarded to me a clipping from a 1910 paper which stated that Alfred Barnett was 83 years old on May 5, 1910. He and his wife, Priscilla (Reynolds) Barnett, were living with their son, Marion L. Barnett, of Topeka, Kansas.

In her original volume of the Hutchins/Hutchens work, Rita Townsend seems to have relied upon data which stated that Alfred Barnett died 13 Dec 1914, but listed no place of death. Priscilla (Reynolds) Barnett is stated as having died 16 January 1915 in California.

I do not know when he migrated to Iowa, although several relatives had arrived in Iowa before the Civil War. Sarah was born in 1863 in Winterset where her father was a merchant (per census records).
I am looking for this couple's marriage date, Sarah's death date, and where they might be buried.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Died, at his residence in Oceola, on the morning of the 27th of November, Benjamin Garretson, in the 72nd year of his age.

He died as the Christian only can die. He exemplified in his death the Saving power of that righteousness of which he had been a preacher for more than forty years.

His Death has widowed his aged companion with whom he had lived in uninterrupted affection for more than half a century. He was the father of Eleven children, only four of whom survive him.

He was a native of Pennsylvania. He was converted to the Christian Religion an[d] joined the M. E. Church in 1820. In 1822 he was licensed by that church to preach, which he did not only by precept, but by example also. Twenty-one years since, being strongly in sympathy with the Mutual Rights Reform in church government, he attached himself to the M. P. Church, in which he lived, and to which he was much attached until the hour of his death, which was another triumph of our holy christianity.

An appropriate funeral discourse was preached at this place by the Rev. A. S. Elliot, – text 2nd Samuel, 14th chapter, and 14th verse – after which his body was removed to the cemetery at Wintersett [sic], and there deposited with the remains of other members of the family, to await the Second coming of Christ.

His family, and a large circle of friends greatly mourn his loss, but they mourn not as those having no hope.

N. W. G.

- Published in The Union Sentinel, Osceola, Iowa, December 19, 1863
Myrtle Wright who married Walter DeBord

Does anyone have any information on Myrtle Wright
after she married Walter DeBord?

Her & Walter had the following children:

1. infant who died at birth
2. Mable Alice DeBord born Jun 1, 1903
in Madison County.
3. Charles Franklin Wright born Aug 19, 1907
in Madison County.

I'm searching for information about their
two children. I would like to know more
about them.

Plus I would like to know if Myrtle and Walter
were divorced. The 1910 census stated that he
is a widower; but a relative said that they
were divorced.

If he was a widower like the census states, I
would like to know when Myrtle died and where
she is buried.

If they divorced, I'm hoping that I can find
out if Myrtle remarried.

Any help would be appreciated.

I want to thank J.W. Branson for submitting the cemetery records for Farris Cemetery, Union twp., Madison co., Iowa. Now I know where my husband's great-great grandparents, William McCurdy and Emily BASS are buried. They came to Madison co. in 1870 from Illinois. Their daughter, Elva Jane BASS married Albert ACHESON in Madison co. on 29 March 1883. Albert was the son of Robert and Eliza ACHESON. We would welcome any information concerning the ACHESON and/or BASS families. Albert and Elva left Madison co., in 1885 or 1886 to homestead in western Kansas.

can you identify the source of this biography?

The citation for this biography is missing from the photocopy I have. I suspect it is from a history of Madison County, but I cannot be certain. I also have a copy of a biography of Fred Imboden from the same book. Fred Imboden is the father of J. Fred Imboden. I would like to know the full citation for these. If it looks familiar, please let me know.

Fred and Bertha Imboden
unknown book
Joseph Fred Imboden was born July 4, 1875, at the farm of his parents Louisa (Fites) and Frederick Sr. Imboden, in Penn Township, Madison County. Fred attended No. 8 school in Penn Township, through the 8th grade. He was in the Penn Center Band along with Ed Cox, Asa Moore, Bruce Moore, Clarence DeVault, O.J. DeVault, Everett Cox, William Scar, Charlie Scar, Albert DeVault, Clyde Renshaw, Harry Leeper, Ray Leeper, and others. Fred was on the rationing board during W.W.II, for Madison County. He also helped build the Penn Center Church.
Bertha Riser was born March 8, 1881, to Maria (Hunziker) and John Riser, Sr., in Clermont, Fayette County, Iowa. After finishing high school, she attended Drake, in Des Moines, to be a teacher. She taught at Pitzer school.
Bertha’s family consisted of 10 children: Alfred, John, Albert, Caroline, Julia, Edward, Bertha, Lydia, Johnny II and Evangeline. Fred’s family consisted of 7 children: Julius, Ed, Lovie, Mary, Joseph Fred, Cora and Roy.
Bertha and Fred were united in marriage in Earlham, April 9, 1905. To this union were born 5 children: Mabel Iris born October 30, 1906, married John D. Callison July 11, 1935. He passed away April 27, 1957. She then married James Verl Smith, June 24, 1964. Iris passed away August 26, 1976, of cancer. Clifford Clarence born April 2, 1909, married Helen Haines August 6, 1932. Erma Louis born April 22, 1911, married Maurice Thrailkill June 3, 1936. Ona Eleanor born March 1, 1914, married Warren K. Nelson June 1, 1938. He passed away September 3, 1969. Fred Richard born May 11, 1924, married Lois Dougan February 27, 1944. Bertha and Fred were blessed with 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
They were members of Penn Center Church. Bertha was a member of the Ladies Aid and she taught Sunday School for a number of years. Fred had the first car in Jackson Township; a friend, Fred Leeper had the first car in Penn Township. Fred, along with his son Clifford, built a sawmill.
Bertha and Fred were farmers of 160 acres in Jackson Township, all their lives, except one year spent in California. They retired to Winterset in 1936. Then daughter Erma and her husband Maurice, moved there and operated the farm. Some of Bertha’s hobbies were sewing, crocheting, and embroidering. Fred’s hobbies were making things from wood.
Fred passed away March 10, 1958. Bertha then moved to live with her daughter, Iris. Bertha passed away April 28, 1971. Most of the Imboden ancestors were buried at the Penn Center Cemetery.

She has Rebecca A. ALLISON, Matilda ALLISON, Phebe Missouri ALLISON, Henry ROBBINS and David ROBBINS living with her. The microfilm is hard to read but it looks like she is 50 years old.
I am in search of pictures or any information if you have it, of the family of Benjamin Binns and Hannah Fearnsides (Fernside, Fearnside) Binns. Their children were Nathan, Benjamin Shaw and John William. They came over from England and first settled in the Oskaloosa/Winterset area I believe. I know there are several Binns' markers over in Winterset which are their grandchildren, etc., and also a lot of markers for Binns in Forest Cemetary in Oskaloosa which are my relatives. In particular, any pictures of Benjamin and his family or Hannah and her familiy (prior to settling in the US) would be great. I do have some that I can share back, though very few! Thanks!

Looking for information on the family of Emery PALMER and Surelda (also spelled "Cirilda" and "Senida") BAKER who were married in Madison County, Iowa on December 20, 1857. They had at least two children: a son C. J. who was living in Portland, Oregon in 1945, and a daughter Abbie. It is in the daughter that my interest in this family lies. Abbie Palmer was born in Winterset, Madison County, Iowa, on September 17, 1862. She married George GREEN (my g-g uncle) and was living in the Portland, Oregon area as early as 1891. George died October 30, 1922 and Abbie May 21, 1945, both in the Portland area. They had no issue.
Did Emery and Surelda have more children? Did the entire family relocate to Portland? I am interested in any information on this family.
I am seeking information on Harriet, Margaret, and Mary MARIETTA - daughters of Uriah MARIETTA. All three were born in Fayette or Somerset Counties, Pennsylvania. Harriet was born about 1833, Margaret about 1839, and Mary about 1843. In 1857 the family left Pennsylvania for Iowa, settling initially in Clarke County. The three sisters appear in the Clarke County 1860 census, and that's the last I've found on them so far. The family later moved to adjacent Warren County, but the sisters do not appear in the 1870 census. Marriage, death, and cemetery records of both Clarke and Warren counties have been searched without success as yet. Does anyone have any information on what became of any these three young women?

His name was Marinus Harthimmer and he lived in Winterset Madison County Iowa from somewhere around 1912 or 1913 until somewhere around 1957 or 1958. Any information as to his parents names who were from Viborg, Denmark would be greatly appreciated. Also any other information about him that might be helpful in my ancestor I would be thankful for. He died in 1959 and is buried somewhere in or around Winterset, Iowa. His wife's name was Minnie Albert daughter of John Albert and Ursula Reynolds. They were married in either 1915 or 1916. Thank you so much for any help. G.L.Gschwend.

Need information on William Early of Madison County, imprisoned in Texas in 1873 for the murder of fellow Iowan named Winters. The trial was one of the most sensational in that part of Texas as it lasted from 1873 until 1880.

William Early was sentenced to life in prison but was pardoned by the governor of Texas in 1885.

Any details on this murder and subsequent events would be appreciated. I have extensive courthouse files from the 7 year trial but would like to contact the descendants of these two families - Early and Winters.

contact me at rfarmer89@hotmail.com.
Looking for information on the family of Melvin and Carrie Smith. They moved to Madison Co, IA about 1894. In the 1895 Iowa state census, they had 3 children, Ethel May b 1891 in Monona Co, Perry R. b 1893 in Monona Co and David F. b 1894 in Madison Co. They were still living in Madison Co at the time of the 1900 census. In 1900 they have added daughter Clara G b 1897 and Carrie's father, Perry E. Felton is living with them.
By the 1910 census, Melvin and Carrie either divorced or Melvin died, as Carrie has married Wm. Cleveland and all except Clara who probably died young, but including her father Perry Felton have moved to Colorado.
In the 1920 census, David F. Smith and his brother Perry R. Smith have returned to Madison County.
Any information on this family will be appreciated.

From what I can tell he had 6 children with Elizabeth Lamb, 5 children with Nancy Barber and one daughter with Salina Hooten. It is a very convoluted family. I think that Salina was also married three times. My line is from Elizabeth Lamb. The only thing I know about Harrison's parents was that they were from Kentucky. Harrison and Elizabeth and some of their children are buried at Winterset Cemetery.
