I am interested in obtaining information on the above listed surnames. The current information I have comes largely from family tradition and The Comanche County (Kansas) History Book copyright 1981 Comanche County Historical Society.

It seems that my great grandfather's (Charles Henry GATES--known as Henry GATES and whose parents were James and Lucinda GATES of Wapello County, IA) sister, Mary Etta GATES, married Matthew KIRKENDALL KLINGENSMITH (son of Joseph KLINGENSMITH and Margaret KIRKENDALL) 31 December 1875 "near Albia, Iowa." In 1884, the KLINGENSMITH family, the Henry GATES (or Charles Henry GATES) family and Martin and Lona GATES--siblings of Mary Etta and Charles Henry, left Iowa for Comanche County, Kansas. All of these folks except for Lona GATES remained in that immediate area where several descendants still reside.

I know there were several KLINGENSMITH siblings and am interested in any available information on their ties to my GATES line.
