Howard B. Scott, 103, Logan, died Mar. 17 at Westmont Care Center, Logan. Howard was born Nov. 22, 1904 in Sibley to Harold and Nellie (Baxter) Scott. Howard graduated from Sibley High School and the University of Iowa Law School in 1927. He first practiced in Wahpeton, N.D. before moving to Logan in 1932 to practice law. Howard served in the U.S. Army during WWII, then at the B-29 factory at old Ft. Crook, now Offutt AFB, then worked with the Omaha OPA price control office during the war. Howard's law practice included probates, insurance claims, income tax, litigations, and some criminal law. He also worked for 30 years for the Des Moines-based Farmers Mutual Hail Company as a corporate attorney. He and his late wife, Edith, enjoyed traveling in Europe. He loved to roller skate and ice skate until his mid seventies. He loved reading and keeping up with politics. Howard was a member of the Congregational Church, now the United Church of Christ in Sibley. Howard lived alone until age 98, then moved to the Westmont Care Center, where he received good and loving care while there. He liked his caregivers very much.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith (Kuhl) Scott; one sister and one brother.
He was a good friend and will be greatly missed.
A Prayer Service was held Mar. 19 at the Logan Memorial Chapel, Pastor Werner Wetzstein, officiant. Organist was Donna Emswiler, vocalist was Carl Wetzstein. Funeral Services were held Mar. 20 at the United Church of Christ, Sibley, Pastor Larry A. Laskie, officiant. Organist was Lola Sjogren, vocalist was Tom Engeman. Honorary Bearer was Bob Morlan. Casket Bearers were: Gary Guge, Darren Kramer, Jeremiah Dagel, Harold Feldkamp, Tim Johnson, and Paul Feldkamp. Interment was in the Holman Township Cemetery, Sibley. Logan Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
