Buena Potter, daughter of Hugh and Lora (Gardner) Raney, was born November 18, 1917 in Algona, Iowa. She attended school in Algona and graduated from Algona High School.
On November 12, 1939 Buena was united in marriage to Sherwood Potter in Algona. To this union four children were born. Buena was employed as a legal secretary for a local law firm for several years. She later worked with Sherwood in their jewelry store, Potter’s Jewelry.
After their retirement, Buena and Sherwood enjoyed wintering in Florida. They liked spending time with their friends there as well as playing golf. Buena loved doing things with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg.
Buena died Monday, December 17, 2007 at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Donna; her husband, Sherwood; a brother and sister-in-law, Lyle Raney and his wife, Ellen, a sister, Norma Walker, and a brother, Howard Raney.
She is survived by her children, Pam Hermansen and her husband, Mike of Waco, Texas, Vicki Ellis and her husband, Ted of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Mark Potter and his wife, Christie of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Christy Willmore, Adam Hermansen, Daniel Hermansen, Jason Ellis, Steph Ellis, Joel Ellis, Christopher Potter, and Justin Potter; nine great grandchildren, Josh and Jake Hill, Holden, Hunter and Abby Willmore, Dylan, Brendan, Landon and Lauren Ellis; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Raney of Algona, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Russell Walker of Algona, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
