My great-grandparents went to Haskell CO KS in 1887, then just 18 months later my great-grandfather died there of typhoid and his young wife returned to Illinois with their baby (and his body). My query to those familiar with the Haskell CO of that era: what records would perhaps exist of any land purchase, and how could I access them? I don't know whether they were homesteading or what. Was federal land still being sold as late as that? I know that he died at or near the town of Example KS. Thanks for any suggestions.
