This appeared in the Reno(NV) Gazette Journal in 1901----Missouri River Wants A Change---Pouring Part of Its Waters into the PLatte--May Change State Line---Kansas City, July 18--The Missouri river has cut its banks at a point eight miles south of Leavenworth and is now pouring its waters into the Platte River.
The bed of the Platte is gradually being widened and there is danger that within the next few days that the Missouri will be transferred completely to the bed of the Platte.
An island five miles long and in some places nearly two miles wide has been formed.
If the Missouri adopts the new channel, this land will be transferred from Missouri to Kansas.
