Susan was born in Kentucky in 1854 to Martin Bogard Gentry and Elizabeth Bogard, daughter of John Bogard and Elizabeth Leonard. She married Phillip C. Leonard and resided in Hardin County, KY until her death in 1920. She and Phillip are buried in the Vine Grove, KY cemetery.
Susan claimed to be Cherokee. A picture of her in Native dress shows the Cherokee star and a bird, probably a dove, indicating she was a member of the Bird Clan. There are crossed American Flags on the bottom of her skirt.
We have been unable to find our which parent was Cherokee, but suspect that it was Martin Bogard Gentry. He first showed up in Bullitt County with John Gentry's family. A note on that record reads that there is no proof he belongs to that family and later moved to Hardin County.
Susan's siblings were: John Henry, m. Maranda Bogard, Majala Angela, m. Preston Hornbeck, and Sarah, m. John Duncan.
Any help with her ancestry would be appreciated.
