JOSEPH F. MEADOR was born July 1, 1836, in Lafayette County, Tenn., removed with his parents in childhood to Sumner County, where he grew to manhood, and in 1862 he located in the southern part of Simpson County, Ky., where he has since resided. In 1863 he enlisted in the Fifty-second Kentucky Regiment of Mounted Infantry, in which he remained eighteen months. His father, Christopher Meador, a native of Bedford County, Va., died about 1844. His wife was Permelia, daughter of Price Snider, of Simpson County (born 1810) and from this union sprang Sarah (Meador, Skeen and Roark), Joseph F., Elizabeth (Turner), James E., John H. and Andrew W. In 1857 Joseph F. married Margaret E. daughter of Asa and Rachel (House) Cummings of Simpson County (born 1834), and to them have been born Martha J. (Dawson), Fannie H., James E., William A., Charles H., John P., Vernon K., Neeley E., Lucy P. and Nannie. Mr. Meador began the world with one horse, bridle and saddle, which he had earned by hard labor. He then labored nine years as a carpenter and builder, after which he engaged in farming, now owning 100 acres of well improved and productive land, in a good state of cultivation, averaging 10,000 pounds of tobacco annually, besides other products. He is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, and in politics is a Republican.
